car is Light blue metallic - wheels - for lack of better words - 17" 5-star wheels. Never seen them on a 5 but they are on z3's and 3 series...
Well its your choice at the end of the day. If you want a good permanent black then powder coat is your solution. Though if on tighter budget, just rattle can wheel paint can be used, aslong as you do multiple layers.

Spray painted wheels always look like crap after 6 months.
They look perfect for all of a week.

powdercoat. save the money and get them done so they last, every few months you'd be spray painting them and time+spray color+spray clear after a few months = price to powdercoat which lasts years if done right

+1
I did the whole duplicolor process with a set of my Alpina wheels and they looked amazing until the first rock chipped them. Now I will be getting them powder coated for sure. Wish I had just done that in the first place.
If you are wanting to paint them still, I recall Janders suggested using Caliper paint as it is a stronger paint, resists chipping more and is easier to clean the brake dust off.
My vote is still to go for the powder coating - by far the best end product.

I used this, bought from Lowe's.

Lasted years on my WRX wheels, and looked great until a shop used a harsh chemical to clean them and dulled the finish.
