I am about to order an alarm for my car and I have seen a lot of threads on how to install the system but no review threads. Stellar offers a wide variety of alarms and I was wondering if anyone has purchased their alarms? If so which model did you choose and why? It seems like there are different sensor choices. All I really want is keyless entry and a solid alarm that works. Also if you don't mind mentioning how much you paid that would be great. All of the ones I have looked at have been in the 200-500 dollar range.
Thanks in advance
I'm also curious about this...

Sorry I cant help. I just bought a used factory alarm and key fob off ebay for $100.00
It plugs right into the factory harness. Install and key fob programming took all of 30 minutes.

I have considered that idea I just worry it will end up breaking 2 weeks after I install it.

That's always possible. Its always possible that you will have issues installing a brand new alarm that doesn't plug into the factory harness. Many here have had problems.
I just checked ebay and there are no factory alarms listed right now. That's another issue. I searched for 6 months till I found just the right deal.
Salvage yards may be your best bet for a used factory system. Then you will probably just have to get a fob for it. The most Ive seen factory systems go for is 150-200 and that's usually with a fob.

Thats a good idea to shop around for a used alarm now that I think about it. Im not worried about it now since my car is parked in the garage but when I go back to school in a few months I will need one. If I don't find one by then I can always just buy the Stellar systems for a little more, unless I find a really good deal on a new alarm. Just out of curiosity how did you search for it did you just type in used e36 factory alarm systems?

I admit my factory alarm isn't fancy but I really got it for the keyless entry and not the alarm. I do like that little blinking LED though now that its installed. We've had a few cars broken into in my neighborhood in the last few months.
I searched ebay motors/ car and truck parts/ security/ alarm systems and searched for items that fit a BMW. I also searched just for used items. That filtered out all the cheap new stuff that I didn't want to wade through. I only wanted items that would plug right into my factory wiring. I didn't put in a model or year so my search turned up items for all BMW's not just e36's. ONce I got the alarm (it didn't come with a fob) I did another search for a fob that would work with it.
Here is the listing I bought. After shipping and $40 for the fob it was $100 total and only a few minutes to install.

Really wish I would of installed an alarm when I said I was going to. My car got broken into a few days ago. Stole my radio, ipod, and ripped my dash up pretty good, all because I didnt buck up. Now i am in the process of dismantling the entire car. Plan on getting the alarm asap now.

Too bad to hear that. Was the car locked?
Check this out. Its the same one I put in mine. You would still need the fob.

Man that sucks! The worst part is the damage that people do to the car.
I have a Viper 791xv that is already prewired to an e36 alarm plug for sale. Just needs to be plugged in like a factory alarm system. It is a 2-way paging alarm/remote start/keyless entry sytem. The remote start portion of the system is NOT wired up, just the alarm & keyless entry. There is also a relay already integrated into the system to allow you to close your windows & sunroof. The 2-way remote is in like-new condition. I'm selling it for $150 + shipping, let me know if you are interested.

That sounds like a pretty good deal j2quik. I'm definitely interested in it. Why are you getting rid of it? My email is charliefeltmann@hotmail.com if you want to send me any more information on it that would be great.
