Very nice. Normally I don't think anything larger than 19" wheels look balanced on the E39, but those 20s look really good.
Congrats!

Love those front on pics. That grill is sick, as are your h/lights.
Sorry, not feeling the rims though, tad too much for mine.
Enjoy.

No worries, 20's aren't for everyone but they look good in person. Plus it keeps the car high enough off the ground so when the wife drives it she doesn't destroy the front bumper on curbs :D

bimmertrek,
I don't wanna blow your party but,
The ride height of your car remains constant whether you have 16", 17", 18", 19" or 20" rims. The outside circumference or rolling distance / length per revolution is the same no matter what size rims.
Having said that a very minor difference in the range of a few millimetres could be expected.
If you were to park a stock suspension E39 with say 16' rims nose to nose with another stock suspension E39 with 19" rims, the bumper heights would be identical.
Note: Several key factors to consider are that tyre inflation must be the same along with suspension components having travelled roughly the same distance plus nil passengers inside.
A larger rim diameter shortens the sidewall and that is the only change, physically. They may appear larger or higher but from what I know they aren't, sorry.
That's not a bad thing;
1/ As it also allows you to fit thumping big brakes
2/ Larger rim wheels have wider tyres = bigger 'patch' on the deck
3/ They look sick (generally) with a much larger dish
There are of course a couple of negative issues in having extra large rims and they are;
1/ That they will always weigh more. Not rocket science as metal is much heavier than rubber
2/ Small profile tyres = minor potholes felt every time which could lead to easier rim damage
3/ Extra work required of suspension components as they have less tyre cushion to work with.
No matter what, it's your ride and if it's 20" then drive the hell out of them.
PS: Don't tell the missus it's higher, else she scrubs that fine front bumper.
