Hello,
I am new to this thread stuff, but I was hoping you could help me.
I have a 98 528i, and randomly my seat and steering wheel lock up and wont move for a period of time. Has this happened to anyone? When i try to adjust the seat nothing happens same with the steering wheel; but it's only randomly.

Is the plastic cover around the base of your driver's seat (the one with the switches on it) falling away or broken away in either the front or back where it attaches to the seat? If so, then probably the electrical connector for the large seat switch is either slipping out or the switch has broken where the harness attaches. See image below for an idea of what I'm referring to.

Nothing is wrong with my cover, but I will check the connections (under the seat i asssume) and see if everything is ok.
Its just weird becuase I can go days with out the problem, but then everything freezes up... and after a few minutes all is well and working again.

The electrical harness is connected to the rear of the seat switch (the big rectangular black thing in the pics above).
The switch is mounted on the back side of the plastic cover (that's around the base of the seat) and is what the large seat button and smaller seat back buttons are mounted to.
You can see how the switch is mounted to the back side of the plastic cover in this pic (by bluebee) below...you can also see how her switch is broken in the same place as the pic I posted above (the one with the orange box highlighting the broken part)...and you can also see the electrical harness removed from the switch:
