Its summertime and folks are bringing their 6ers out for a much needed stretch. Anybody get into some dialog with strangers admiring your E24?
I have an uncle who keeps offering money for my car every time I see him once every three months. "So...still got the 6? I'll give you $7K for her."
I hear some folks get notes on their cars too...

For maybe the first 2 weeks I owned the car, literally EVERY DAY, I got at least some sort of compliment on it.

evidently the ONLY 6ser fans are the ones that own one.. or two.. or three...
you put one up for sale and you get ALL KINDS of emails, but NOBODY's got the balls to actually come and look at it.. LOL

I get compliments here and there, but where I live it is looked at as more of an old car than anything (you look at the high-school student parking lots and see Acuras, BMW's and a fair chunk of other luxury cars - even Porsches). I did have a guy in a newer BMW shooting video while we were on the highway not too long ago - that was sort of a kick. I really like it when I get to meet someone else who is a fan of E24's.

Hello
In my less than 24 months of ownership I've gotten quite a bit of notice.
-many thumbs up while driving
-Been asked to roll down my window at a traffic light by both drivers and pedestrians to comment on how nice and sometimes a "what BMW is it"
-twice I found a note on my window "do you want to sell" with a name & #
-sever occasions I have found a people walking around the car admiring it while its parked on the street or a lot
I think there are more people out there who appreciate these 6-ers than we think there are. Not necessarily enough to shell out the cash we'd like to see come our way but they are certainly admired and people have not be shy about it.
I have a 1988 M6 in silver ext/Black Int in pretty pristine original condition in case your wondering how that affects things.
Regards
Max

What do 6er fans say to you? I've noticed that if the fans are female they shy away quickly after initially gushing profusely... as they likely know (or have rightly figured?) that I have no more dosh $$ to spend on them?
:D
i get hey nice car every now an again. get asked a few questions. kinda nice from time to time.
i do notice alot of people in other cars, or on the street watch it pass by.

It's a bit of a head turner, so I'll catch people watching me drive by. Had a 'thumbs up' from a guy in an E38, and another from a guy in an e28. Every time I've seen another 6er on the road I have been in someone else's car, though.
I did get stopped at the ATM by a guy who apparently has an 88 M6 as his nice weather only car. The only stranger that I've had a chat with about E24's.
Had a guy who worked at McDonald's ask me if I wanted to sell and how much. Asked again by a guy at a bolt and screw store, and asked once more by one of the salesmen at the Dodge dealership while I was there peeking at the new Challenger.
Then there's the once in a while, "Nice car, dude" from whoever might be standing in the parking lot as I go in somewhere. Makes me proud to own one. I never got that much attention in my E30!

There's a guy at the local gas station who comes out to see the 6 every time I bring it by. He didn't seem to mind the gold paint one bit! It definitely got a lot of looks when it was wearing throwing stars... Now the only person who says anything about it is my girlfriend. "When are you going to paint that car?? I don't like how you've been ignoring it!" :)

The very first time I stopped after I bought the car I was driving it from the PO's house in Seattle back to Portland. I stopped at a rest stop and a guy came up and asked if it was a 635 and he explained how he would see these when he was stationed in Germany and how he always wanted one. That was kind of cool, and I took it as a good omen. I continue to get comments, and I'm surprised how many people know what it is (some even know it's a Euro). Once I got a thumbs up from a guy in a fairly new 7 going down the highway. I enjoy this aspect of owning the car and it feels good to know that I'm maintaining a little piece of history.
In the 2 hours I've spent driving mine over the weekend, I received more comments and reactions from people driving than I have in 4 years of driving my clean red e30. Blew me away. Made me feel a lottttt better about all those nagging problems i've encountered.

I bought mine 10 days ago now. In the first day, a person pulled up beside me at a light, rolled his window down, and asked what year it was. He then told me to "cherish it". I got a kick out of it. Driving it back to my home, a guy at a gas station stopped me, asked to look under the hood, and told me he's always wanted one of them. Gotten a few gawkers in the days since, though since I've gotten it back to cleveland, definitely less attention. There was a guy in a relatively new 760 with the V12 (sadly with ridiculous like 22 inch rims) who nodded at me and said "nice car" while we were next to each other at a stoplight.

A couple months ago I had a note on the windshield that said "SELL IT TO ME...PLEASE!?!?!?" with a phone number.
:) ... no.

The strangest thing that happened to me is while at a Dunkin Donuts someone came into the store and asked who's BMW that was. First thing I thought was "oh shit, someone hit me." When I said mine, he asked me if I wanted to sell it.
Most often on the road I get honks and some thumbs ups and the only female attention I get is old (over 65+) women telling me their late husbands used to drive my car or "you're too young to have bought that new." My wife still laughs at the old lady outside the Barnes and Nobel leaning in my window telling me all about my car when she came out. She's amazed I didn't get a number.
And finally I have had kids come up to me and ask me if it's a Rolls. Go figure.

I was stopped by a campus parking officer once and we struck up a conversation about how he used to live in New Jersey working on the docks with a family member. He used to drive these cars, among others, off the boat and onto the trucks. I think he said he even drove a few Ferrari's off the ships.

At a red light a few weeks ago, I had a public transit bus driver behind me get off of the bus, and knocked on my passenger window. I wound down the window expecting him to yell at me for some reason, but was surprised when he said " Beautiful sixer, I've always loved these cars!" and then walked back to his bus...with passengers aboard!
Kinda left me stunned at that moment, but was nice to hear! :-)

While parked in a parking lot for a short spell (away from the hoard). Another enthusiast and his wife park their car a comfortable two stalls away from the 6er. Still close enough to walk past and get a good glimpse of my gal. Is that a E24? Yes it is I reply as I'm climbing out of the car. Dude hints (with a nod). Sure, you can take a look as I open my door wider for a peek:eek:. Both husband and wife look over the 6er and took a pretty good look at the interiors. After a friendly thank you and nod of approval...I could hear the wife saying "how come our car can't look like that?" Of course, I just smile to myself walking away, BUT...I had to turn around myself and look at my baby again as well.

I receive tons of comments almost daily. For those of you who don't know my car, the fact that for all practical purposes it looks as if it just came off the showroom floor certainly adds to its head turning capabilities.
Best recent was Thursday, stopping by buddies detailer shop and guy in a city dumptruck pulls up at stop sign yells out the window "Now that's 6, Man, that's a 6!".
Two weeks earlier, in front of a buddy's shop, two other mechanics admiring under the hood, get the common, but in this case arrogant (from a new mercedes conv. owner), stops, gets out of car, "is that for sale". Given no stroke of the ego nor salutation he got a very cold "No", which nicely sent him back into his ragtop and on his way, the mechanics knew exactly why I responded as I did.
I've gotten Harley guys and 911 drivers pulling up with thumbs up (happens all the time) and car guys with money, i.e. dealers always wanting to buy it.
But the best? At a friends classic car show at his resto shop, about 80 classics there and my two sixers. Old timer standing on driver's side observing engine bay. My wife's stepdad and I are looking at him and he actually almost looks frustrated. He turns to me. "You own this car?" Of course I reply yeah, it's mine. "How many F'n cylinders it have?" Nothing was funnier. Felt like saying expand your horizons, there are engines besides chevy and ford V8's.
Oh, and then, at a hand wash place that recently opened. Was last month, and the pollen was all over the car, made me sick and was low on time to do my own wash. Pull up, ask if they are willing to use fresh buckets etc. They agree.
While drying(I'm in the car), one says to the other "He must keep this in a garage".
I obviously chuckled...

Almost every day I have atleast one person that confronts me about my six. Even the cops ask me about my car if they see it. Usually the people that talk to me about my car are fellow BMW owners of some sort or respect quality made, German engineered machines:D. Many times people will just stare at the car like they have just seen a ghost. I love it and can't see myself without the car.

I have a been known to frequent the Starbucks.
Many times a young girl will ask if that is the "new " BMW ?
I gladly explain that the car is older than her.
Makes me feel good and I do love my 635.
I get a kick when people will double take while walking through
a parking lot. I see that often.
Best one was a guy in a fairly new BMW asking all about my car.
I was looking at his ride. We both left happier guys.

First time I took mine out, I was filling up at a gas station, and a guy waiting at a traffic light, was hanging out of his car window, eyeballs almost popping out. When he passed by, he was still hanging out of his window, not paying any attention to traffic, while giving me a big thumbs up. So that was a nice first drive.
Also got pulled over by the cops twice that day :D
People at work ask me about it every day, who that cool BMW in the parking lot belongs to.
Also get a lot of thumbs ups from E30 drivers and older dudes that can appreciate the car.
Whenever or where ever you drive, there's always someone turning their head, makes me proud to drive this classy lady!

i took mine to get the new rims put on yesterday, it took forever and a day but i think half of it was all the attention to the car! there was a handful of people outside its bay the whole time they had it. of course me being the wreck i am when someone foreign is working on my car was there the whole time (answering lots of questions!) but it makes ya feel good :) http://www.facebook.com/photo.php?pid=4439901&l=c498cf499f&id=735237676 (http://www.facebook.com/photo.php?pid=4439901&l=c498cf499f&id=735237676)
