View Full Version : Thinking about selling MDORPHN

Neil

Guys -

After 10 years of development and enjoyment, I'm thinking about selling MDORPHN -- my highly modified '99 M Coupe (described in sig). It is among the quickest and best sorted boosted M Coupes out there that is street legal and OBDII compliant. Very well-maintained 134,000 miles, with only 13,000 miles on a RRT-rebuilt engine. Given narrow market for such a car, I'd appreciate advice on or offline about selling it.

MODERATORS: Would appreciate your allowing this thread to remain on this forum. Thanks.

Good luck with sale - I can't help but notice how many TS cars go up for sale compared to turbos proportionally!

Neil

Boo, hiss! Not the type of response I expected.

BTW, it's "proportionately";)

Neil

P.S. How many folks out there have driven their boosted BMWs -- turbo's or supercharged -- more than 85,000 miles on countless roads and tracks??

I said good luck! I am just always taken back when I see TS cars go up.

Curious Neil... and if you want you can PM me the answer... what would the potential replacement be? Or are you out of it altogether?

No way I'm getting out of it! Thinking about doing some interesting things to a 1 series.

Any other Twinscrew owners want to join the
GROUP TWINSCREW SELL???

:shifty

BTW, Jon,
I'm rolling daily with 35,000 miles
and I'd venture to say its a MUCH better beginner FI
than a rotrex, vortec, centri, garb...

It is a sweet car! Goes like stink too! I am sure Neil will hook up the next car to be much better overall... Plus he's starting with the better FI platform TURBO! ;)

You should be glad.
You know the excitement of the move UPWARD.

It is enlightenment... coming out of the closet, so to speak.

Good luck with everything. It seems like it was just the other day I saw your whole engine bay sitting on shelves at RRT.

If you don't mind me asking...what sort of price are you looking to get?

Given the car's mods, even with the miles on it, I'd say shoot for asking 30k, and hope you get like 27 out of it.

Maybe in a perfect world.

Neil, I think you will be looking at ~5k less than what Carl gets for his PT67 M Coupe.

Just my honest opinion.

Good luck Neil. I love my T/S but I have not driven mine for almost 3 years now and ponder selling it just to free up funds for other hobbies I have gotten more into lately( wakeboarding/boating), But figure I never will due to how much of a loss I would take. I should start driving mine again this summer. ( I had a leased MZ4 coupe for 2 years so the T/S got parked) I would sell mine for 27-30K range but finding a buyer is going to be the hard part. BTW what pulley size are you using, I got a set of shrick cams the other day ( obviously only putting the exh one in) but just curious if you went back to the stock pulley size?

Stock pulley.

I'll be realistic if I sell. Agree with Nate that asking for $30G would be too high.

I'd probably pay 8-10k more for Neils car than I would yours.

I'd love to see $27-30G, but imagine that around $25G may be more realistic.

Since Lohe's car is a bit less track-oriented, it may have a broader market.

Why?

you don't even know what my car has... only 89K miles only 9 since T/S install, a lot less track miles. It has AA headers/ trakc pipe, UUC muffler, DSB, ZKW's, Shrick cam ( to be installed)
Installed only 300 miles aog...
Clutch, Wilwood BBK, GC suspension track kit, rear sub frame bushings, motor mounts, super rare oem cloth/suede interior, etc, etc.

Shrug... I have A LOT of the same stuff done...

I didn't say I am selling mine I would for that price. :)

I would most likley be better off parting everything out

Okay.

You didn't have your mods in your sig. Am I to assume you have a BBK and cloth interior? But are you surprised you are losing money on mods? I agree, you would be better off parting out your car.

M Coupes trade for a 5-7k premium compared to E36 M3's right off the bat, so there is the majority of your difference right there.

None of this was meant to be offensive. I watch these markets and see whats trades, so I chimed in. Feel free to disregard my info, no harm no foul.

Neil, MZ. 368 bought this car for 25k or less, I am not sure of final negotiated price was. It is VERY clean. Sorta sets the market IMO. http://forums.bimmerforums.com/forum/showthread.php?t=1321148

However, in your favor is the fact that M coupe prices have jumped back from the first half of 2009 very favorably. I don't see a lot of them trading to be honest, as I think asking prices are too high to meet bids right now, but most sellers seem to be sticking to their guns. I am very interested to see what happens with Carls car.

Good luck with whatever route you choose.

Suspect this will be a $25G or best offer kind of deal.

Ultimate track day/weekend coupe. Selling it would be like selling one's first born - just can't do it.

no sale here, i would not say beginner FI, it kinda implies Turbo is the final destination. Just my choice of words (and it keeps the rivalry going). BTW, no turbo plans here either.

I was being a Sarcasmo,
the Queen of tearing flesh.

My word "beginner" hints that a TWIN SCREW supercharger set up is
GORGEOUS
compared to those others,
and leaves little to be desired.

Sorry to confuse.
