View Full Version : Bad idea to lower SLS wagons?

I'm doing some suspension work on the 540 today and decided to take off the original rear shocks. I figured they would be blown at 120k. They seem to be fine, but the one thing that struck me was the shock only has about 1" of travel before it hits the bump stop. Is this normal? I guess the SLS ones don't need as much travel as a spring system?

I have an invoice from the previous owner where it looks like they lowered the rear ride height in the computer by 10-15mm. Seems to me that took away a good bit of the suspension travel in the rear. Think I should go back to stock height?

Any thoughts?

I put the shock back in, but had to jack up the hub to get the top mounting bolts to engage. When I let off the jack, the shock pulled out further. It's almost as if the shock has a rubber bump stop inside the shock.
