Probably the most awesome looking shifter made for the E36 M3. This is a ultra rare, Racing Dynamics, Gate Shifter. I bought it last summer new from a Racing Dynamics rep. I put it on my car,but recently decided to sell my car and removed it. The shifter is in great shape as I've only driven 2500 miles since last summer. The gate is a little quirky as the shifter rod has some slight shimming from shifting thru the gates, but the looks kill!

From the Racing Dynamics website:(I can't download a photo but you can see it here.)

This is a very cool shifter. You have to use it to appreciate it. If you love video games, you will love this shifter. At first, its frustrating using it especially if you normally shift diagonally(i.e. 2nd to 3rd). But once you accept the fact you don't diagonally shift but follow the gate pattern, its a no brainer. After you use it for a while, it gets addicting. I started looking forward to driving the car because of the shifter. All I can say its like an "arcade" game as you shift thru the gates.

Try it! Plus you will love the way it looks.

It does take a little bit to get use to. I have driven an older Ferrari with a shift gate and it was interesting and fun to drive.
