Wow, the sad thing about it all is that the owner probably paid around there for the parts. :(

They seem to think they are doing someone a favor :rolleyes I might go take a look though, if I can, see how bad the damage is, it's local, so I wonder what car it is :( I know of 2-3 in addition to mine.

Well if you buy the engine and transmission from the dealer and have the dealer install it, I am not surprised.

If you have either a dealer install or a private mechanic hand rebuild an engine it will get up there, my '88 325is had a rebuilt M20, everything done right, it came with a recipt for $6000, and that was '95-98

I had a straight-8 long block built and rebalanced by what I think were some of the best guys for that sort of work, and it was about $1100 10 years ago. Add another $900 for a rebuilt trans. And another 1000 for every other part rebuilt or reconditioned to spec.

What make? Were the pistons replaced? Block machined? Cylinder bores reworked?

There's a big difference in price make to make, I can get a set of chevy 350 pistons cheap, not so mch if you are rebuilding the engine in my Peugeot, 1k pistons only
