Love the S50/5 in my Touring. No one around has ever heard of such a mod and I was actually surprised how common it was coming over to the E34 forum from the E36 forum.
I know nothing about the S52 especially with the 6 spd, but my mechanic absolutely loves my S50/5 and he's begging me to bring it in. I've been able to do all the maintenance myself...with the help of the board members here of course.

There are more than a few running around. Lots seem to go into tourings, since they only got the M50 or M60b30. TouringDan had one, Eric up in Seattle had a supercharged version (since sold I think, never much on the board).
A couple M52 swaps out there too, LouieD and Five&Dive.
I'll most likely be doing one.. Done some research and its a very straight forward deal.

In my time here, I have come across a few threads where a user had swapped in an S5x and commented on how pleased they were with it - and most of these guys are respectable members that are very critical so if they were happy with it, that is saying something.

I installed my 50k mile S52 almost three years ago. Had the old M50 non-vanos engine out and the new one in and running in a day. It's been totally maintenance free other than regular oil changes. Used all the original accessories except the MAS and DME and a few small items. It looks like a factory setup. I prefer to drive this over my 91 M5. Kept the automatic and glad I did. 29-30mpg on cruise at 80mph.

I love it, they should have offered the s52 as a stock motor for the e34. It really deserves it over the m50. You can not use the m3 dif, it has to be one from an e34.
Search for touring dans swap diy/writeup....very informative.

Damn I wish the PO would've kept the stock airbox. I've got a K&N cone filter sucking HOT air in huge gulps!
Nice looking motor.

I'm still collecting parts for my swap...cylinder head is back from the machine shop, block is getting prepped.
Next up is removing the overheated boat anchor the PO created and taking the trans to the shop for a PM rebuild.
I'm figuring it'll be running by the end of the summer.

If you do this swap, do a write up on the 6-speed swap. I have read that the 5-speed and 6-speed transmissions are the same length, but I'd like someone to confirm this.
