so yesterday i got in my car (93 325I) amd i knew i was low on gas but when i looked at my guages none of them were working. everything and i mean every light works fine but the tach speedo fuel temp and MPG guages dont move a lick. Well today i disconnected the battery to maybe reset the computer and upon hooking it back up the only thing different is the RED part on the TEMP guage(overheat warning) is flashing like there is not tomorrow even with the key out. ive checked fuses and they are all good and getting 13-14 volts when the car is running. i pulled the cluster and all the connectors are still hooked up.
Its crazy it was fine when i parked and then less thn 16 hours later its DOA.:help any ideas before i loose my mind?

This is something that does happen to our cars. I would suggest checking the wiring harness on the trunk arm on the drivers side. Many times over the years the wires will fry and cause a lot of issues with the car.
There is a large thread for this so check that out.
I would also suggest that you might be experiencing a cold solder crack on your instrument circuit board which is becoming more common with out vintage cars now.
How do you fix the cold solder board? You need to remove the instrument panel and get down to the board level, use a lot of light and magnifing glass and look for cracks or black cracks which is a sign of a void. Resolder those areas by just reflowing the solder and maybe add just a little. Lot of work but works....

Best guesses I can give you. Lastly and the easiert thing to do if you have the cluster out is to put di-electric grease in each connector to improve conductivity

New update- my gauges still don't work but when filling up with gas yesterday I noticed that gas was pouring out of the top of tank on to the ground. When I got home I yanked my seat off to access the fuel sending unit cap and is almost submerged in gas with the electical connector under about an inch of fuel. Is it possible that this shorted something out befor or after the fuse?
