Hi guys

Functionwise, is there a big difference between what INPA/DIS can do in comparison with SSS Progman? Does the SSS Progman offer modification options that INPA/DIS do not offer? I want to get a tad more information to see if its worth installing SSS Progman or do i have enough with INPA/DIS. If it matters, my personal vehicle is an E46, 2000 328Ci.

Any input will be appreciated.

Regards,
Mark

Here is the skinny.

Diagnostics:
INPA = Factory BMW Engineer tool. Quick.
DIS = Dealer tool. Basically more IDIOT proof. (Most coding under v45)

Coding:
NCS = Part of the INPA install if you choose. Very robust, but dangerous.
SSS = Coding (Safe) for modules. (Basically took over coding from DIS after v44)

Thankyou for the response. Definitely going to take on the SSS Progman installation project.

If you got DIS running...I wouldnt, but thats me.

After spending HOURS getting situated with all this...

I basically never use DIS or SSS. To big of a beast for what it does.

My opinion of course.

Doesnt SSS allow you to reprogram your DME?

Alright, I'm ordering a IBM T30 next week from eBay, so I will try to work on this with you too. I need to reprogram to get rid of the automatic flash on my DME and put a manual flash on so my ABS and tranny light goes off.

Fantastic. If you are going to get a T30, then I would recommend you use these recovery disks to restore DIS and SSS straight to system: http://www.digital-kaos.co.uk/forums/f104/recover-dvds-bmw-dis-v57-tis-sss-v32-gb-ibm-t30-66793/?highlight=Recover (I have already downloaded them, some of the links from page 1 are dead, but are reposted on following pages.)

I've been reading a bit on the automotive forums there at digital-kaos, and also some polish site (bmw-klub.pl) where the members seem to have quite a handle on these pieces of software. I've posted my problem there, but still have no solution. There is also a post on e46fanatics that a member succesfully updated his DME, but he did not report what kind of cable he was using. I'm suspecting that may be my problem, but have not verification. One member on the polish site says his cable he makes and sells (for about $200) has tested succesfullly updating the DME.

In desperation, I've also been looking at Ebay, and see that the EDIC (yellow-head) interface for GT1 is about $400 now, while the OPS head is about $600 (don't beleive it works with E36 or E46) and the OPPS head is about $1000. And just out of curiosity I looked at BMW's new system, ISIS, and the head that goes with it: looking at about $6000.

Randomy,
I started downloading all those pieces to put the recovery disks back together. I'm waiting to get paid to purchase the T30 now. Seems like ever since I posted that I was going to get one on eBay, the prices got jacked up. My luck...:rolleyes

On a better note, my M60B40 comes today!

Nice, is that motor going in your E36?

Nah, my E34. I'm trying to source a M62B44 that I can send out to get iron sleeves put in with rods so I can do a single large turbo M62 with the W.A.R. Chip. I'm waiting for another head for the M3, as I have a little but of coolant consumption. My Miller TIG welder came last week, and I have a set of M62 manifolds at the machine shop right now getting a few sets of exhaust manifold flanges made up that mate to the head. I have some things brewing right now.... =) Thats why money is tight for another laptop. And I still need to buy an Audi before winter hits...

Anywho, I plan to have all of these recovery DVDs all downloaded by Wednesday. And either next week or the week after I will get the laptop. I have to get another hard drive for the laptop just for DIS v57. I just hope that we can make some headway here to bring some more tools to the masses and make these cars a bit more accessible.

I was browsing through some threads here, and I sae a thread where they were bridging two pins inside the 20-pin connector? Could you reiterate that process? I dont remember where I saw it. Whats the purpose?
