:help i have a 1993 325i and i am trying to put in a cosmos racing cai. the only problem is that i don't know what to do with the intake air box thermostat. also how important is this piece when it comes to my cars performance? :help

In your other thread for the same thing you were asked to provide us a picture. If you have that capability, can you please upload one to imageshack.us and then link it here?

I wish I can help, but they changed the intake slightly on the 96+ cars, so my 328 had no such thing.

Interesting, it looks like it's there to warm up the intake air for freezing temperatures? 96+ has coolant lines running to the throttle body to keep it warm and from freezing. It's not a problem if you just connect the two hoses together or just put the sensor aside.

For mine i just drilled a hole in the underside of the intake slightly bigger than the thermostat. Then put a grommet inside the hole that the thermostat fit very snug into. I also put a zip tie around the intake to hold the thermostat in place. Be very careful with the thermostat because they are fairly brittle. I will try to get a pic of mine if that doesn't make sense. Your other option would be to just have it zip-tied somewhere near the intake and away from the engine to get an accurate temperature reading.
