I am in the process of finishing off some bbs rs wheels. Everything is going along smoothly except for my nuts and bolts. The lips look fantastic, but now that I look at the nuts and bolts to hold the wheel together they look awful.

The thought of attempting to finish them myself is scary. I have been looking online for plating of the pieces. I am either going to be chrome plating them or zinc plating them (whichever is cheaper). The thing is, a few sites I have seen quotes on state for example (bolts = $5-6 for chrome plating).

So they are saying $5-6 for EACH bolt or for a set amount? Because of the sites I have checked are similar in pricing, but don't state a quantity so I assume that its $5 per bolt...

If that's the case that's just ridiculous, and I need other options. Help me out here guys. If someone knows anyone in the Chicago area that would be great. I am not looking to purchase new bolts, as these are just fine. I am trying to keep costs to a minimum.

I know you can order new bolts for aprox 2 dollars a bolt in either gold or chrome finish.

I plan to clean mine by soaking them in vinegar for several days. After that, I was considering this:

Or I would polish them myself. Put the bolt in a drill, and have one cloth with metal polish and another clean cloth to buff it out. It would take a while, but I have more time than money...

I painted mine - they had lots of corrosion on them and trying to bring them back up to snuff would've taken forever!!! Powder coating for a stronger finish is also something to think about. They have all kinds of colors now a-days.

Cool story.

Those of us that don't have $150-200 to spend on bolts are looking for a good alternative.

I just refinished a set of 18" style 5's and all the bolts were in great shape, except the zinc plating had done its job and they all cosmetically looked bad.

It cost me $55 to have all 136 nuts/bolts replated in an OE appropriate clear zinc plate.

The company will let you mail them the hardware and get it mailed back to you.

It costs me about $60 form a local plating shop to cadmium plate mine. I had about 130 pieces for my style 5's. Held up great and they tumbled and polished them also for that price too.

And pictures of the cadmium plate?

Thanks so much for the link up there. I'm looking at a few different options for my own bolts now. Copper could be interesting...
