I think its reminiscent of the redone Ford Taurus. Of course that's based off of an internet picture; I'm sure when I see it in person, it will be awesome. I really like the interior though.

Just saw one in my neighbourhood today. It is a pretty big car in fact. Looks sleek and agressive. I am still not sure if I warmed up enough to it.

I have a love hate relationship with it. It is going to have to grow on me. I think they are trying to make each series a niche car. It all began with the X6 and the GT. But this isn't such a bad thing; shouldn't the car you drive be a niche car for you and as unique as the driver? I think it will grow on us slowly, but I am waiting for the 2011 760Li with X-Drive. I am torn though I like the new MB S600 anyone know if they offer AWD option in that? Or only in the MB S550?

It looks really bulky that's the only thing I don't like about it. But it is definitely an aggressive look and if anything BMWs have been getting even more aggressive looking lately.

So if I read BMWUSA.com correctly the new 5 only comes in 535 or 550?

It def looks different but not that much IMO. I'd sport it.

The 528i goes into production in June and is the only 5 not available with a manual transmission. The AWD models will lag behind by about 2 months.

I disagree. E60 looked like dog poop when it came out and it still is a very ugly car. The front end looks like an asian kid with a down syndrome. The new 5er may be bulky, but the lines on it flow pretty well and it looks 10x better than E60.

It was one of the few new cars that actually impressed me at the NY Auto Show. I do however, think it has officially become too porky to be considered a sports sedan. I just think it needs a little more tone and definition. haha

They will not offer an X-drive version of the 760Li. I don't see what you need 4 wheel drive for on a 7. They all ready drive great in the snow as long as you have good tires.

You mean the mini 7 series? because that's what it looks like. I actually like it (when compared to the E60, which is a hideous abomination) but it is still way too rounded for me. The F10 needs more E34

When you say ///M and factory forced induction to describe the same car, you really need to reconsider the "enthusiast" label.
The beauty of the ///M Cars has always been raw N/A power. The sound of it's heart as it climbs the tach beyond what your head tells you is possible, while still delivering the kind of soul that brings that sincere smirk to the corner of your mouth; and as it grows into an all-out gear-head smile, you finally understand, this is what makes a car great.

The other atrocity that I've read and heard of the new "m5" is that it will be retard-flipper only, not so much as the option for the clutch pedal. I hope this is not true, but it's what I've read and heard... I'm still holding out hope though.

Bridgestone Blizzak's work? Yeah I already have an E60 with X-Drive and I do not think that I will be driving my 760 in a blizzard. I think it will be my going out car and long distance traveling car since it seats the driver and all passengers so comfortably. Agreed pizzaman?

I own both E60 (530i) and a E39 (528i). I ordered the F10 (528i) and await it's arrival in the next few days. All cars are great depending on how you drive and care for them. My E60 needs lots of attention as opposed to my E39 that going strong after 14 years. I wonder if I should sell her! Decisions!!!

For me it will always be the e39 first and the e34 second...I just love both of those body styles. I never liked the e60, still don't and as for the F10, I like it but don't love it...I suspect there will be a lot of them out on the roads soon, people who don't necessary appreciate them, just can afford one.

I like the new F01, I like the E90 and I liked some photos I saw of the F10 online. But I saw one in person the other day and I don't like it, it looks like an oversized E90 on the road.

But way less displeasure than when the E60 came out.

Hey All,

If you've still got questions about the new 5, you can read more about it here (http://www.bramanbmw.com/blog/2010/august/26/braman-bmw-2011-5-series.htm).

There's some good info here about how the new technology, transmission, and engine options give you a better drive than it's predecessor.

My son was looking at a 135i and while I was at the dealership they convinced me to test drive a 535i w/ 6speed manual.

Wow, It's a pretty fast car for it's weight and when compared to my old '02 525i ( E39).

It has way too many gizmo's for me. The idrive is much better than the one in my buddy's E60.
I think the interior is beautiful and it has that distinctive new BMW smell.
The thing that impressed me the most is it felt/looked more like a downsized 7 series that an upsized 3 series car.

It is BIG! The styling , while I think it's better than the E60, is/seems somewhat Japanese.. especially the rear of the car?

Maybe it's just me??

You really should drive one of the new generation F/I cars before criticizing them. If I blindfolded you and put you behind the wheel of my 335 you would never know that it was turbocharged. Zero lag, all the great sounds and engine performance that we're used to in BMWs. Well, maybe not you, rotary man. :D

First post on this forum and just bought a silver 2011 550I. I love the car, handles great and pretty darn fast. I bought it for my wife as she was driving a Volvo SUV and I drove a Volvo S60R. I traded the R in on the 550 as I ride motocross and was always borrowing my wife's XC90. It's our first BMW and this car handles great, lots of power, and extremely quiet. I really like the looks of the new 5 series but obviously that is very subjective but so far very happy with the car.

I just picked up a new 2011 Alpine White 535 I and wow is it sweet. Never thought I would switch from VW/Audi and Mercedes Benz. Coming from a family of an 05 VW MK4 GTI, B8 2010 A4 2.0T, and an 2005 MB E500 4Matic.

The ride home from Prestige in Ramsey, NJ was incredible. Never thought this ride home would be as nice as it was. The car handles great and with the new electric assisted streering the car is effortless to control. The car rides amazingly and you get ample road feel, but still have a comfortable ride.

It is one of the nicest rides in this type of car I have ever been in.

Anyone has any questions please let me know.

Bought the 535i. It is big, still getting used to that after my 335i Coupe. Love the new front and rear changes. Interior is great. I-Drive is good, but way to much cutsey electronic crap that detracts from the experience. Unbelievably quiet at highway speed. At 65 get 34 mpg, at 80 get shade over 32 mpg. How's that for a 2 tone car!!

Umm...I think someone threw away the key after they designed the E39. Do not see any improvements on looks from the E39. Perhaps BMW should just use the E39 shell and put all the new stuff in that body, which was both masculine and feminine -- and thus sexier than the E60's and the new 2011's. PTB

and instead we get the ugly GT model, YUuuUK! :thumbdown

Every morning, I have the great fortune of staring at a car, in the parking lot, from my office window. It happens to be a really nice BMW.

I'm talking about a F10 550i, Black/Black. The plate reads, "LUV HER". I'm not kidding when I say, I love that car. Seriously folks, that BMW is awesome. A fellow employee drives the car, not sure who within the company but I see the woman park the 550i weekday mornings and drive off evenings.

I'm not afraid to admit, I really feel people will warm upto F10's. I'm beginning to see quite a few around North Dallas now.

I don't like the new 5, I love it! I liked the looks from the first pics I saw back in the Spring, finally replacing the Bangle-ized E60. And now I've driven 2. The first was back in July when I got an invite from BMW to drive the new 5 at my local dealer. I drove a 550i and it was awesome of course. And now I have a 528i loaner while my new (to me) 335i gets a detail, tint, and proper delivery to me, as the dealer was closed on Saturday night when I finished my deal. I have to say, even though it's only a 528 and no sport pkg, I still like it. I can see a CPO 535i sport pkg in my garage in 2-3 years. :)

I do need to change my position now (hey, politicians do it all the time! lol). I returned the 528i loaner yesterday and got into my 335i, then immediately realized how big the new 5 is. Obviously, it's a mid-size car vs. my small (or compact, whatever the classification is) 335, but I've also driven a few E60s in the last 6 months, and they didn't feel as big/heavy as the F10. As much as I prefer the exterior look of the F10, I have to now say that if I were to go up to a 5-series in 2 or 3 years, it would be a E60 instead.

I just purchased a 535xi and I am blown away by the luxurious feel of this car. Coming from a 335xi the difference is absolutely phoenomenal. The 335 was truly a sport sedan. The 535 is a luxury sedan but not like a Lexus thank G-d.

I love them in the sport trim. I spent a good 20 minutes looking at the 550 and 535 with sport options at the local dealer. What I don't like are all the body mods I've seen thus far. All the front bumper options look terrible IMO. I think the M5 will be wicked. I also love that only one model of the new F10 is non-turbo. That being said, I imagine they will have a lot more problems due to the heat. Especially on the M5.

I hated the E60's for the longest time but they are really starting to grow on me. I drove the E60 M5 and it's amazing!!! The sound is ridiculous. I think the F10's will grow on people faster. The only thing I don't like is the fact that from the front, it's hard to tell which is a 3 and which is a 5. That sucks!!

I was reading this thinking, "I could have written that" -lol. I HATED the E60 from the moment it came out, especially since the E39 was my favorite sedan, until this last year. Ironically, just as it finally starting growing on me, I saw the first pics of the F10 and loved it! But, having driven a couple E60s and F10s since Summer, I have to give it to the E60 on driving feel/dynamics. Exterior styling still goes the to F10 though. I do disagree with you on model confusion though. I think the new 5 is more easily confused with the 7 rather than the 3 (which makes sense since it shares many components).

btw - a couple of the E60s I've test-driven were M5s, and you're right, they are amazing!

Things that make you go, hmmmmmm....

Wheelbase of E34 (88-96 5 series) 108.7"
Wheelbase of E90 (current 3 series) 108.7"

Wheelbase of F10 (current 5 series) 116.9"
Wheelbase of E32 (86-94 7 series) 116"

So, in the next 30 years or so, when the 1 Series blows up to fill the role of a 3, the 3 expands to become the new 5, the 5 becomes the new 7, and the 7 Series takes over the market left open by Hummer, what will they designate if they want to re-introduce a heritage small coupe again? The -1 Series?

Lol dumb, random thought. I'll quietly get back to work now.

Takes a while to get used to the new shape/ body curves but i wouldn,t trade it for my E60. The E60 was a good car, wonderfull on t he highway but acceleration was spotty at best. I went in for some cpo work on my 545i today and I was looking at the 535i xdrive. I test drove one (08) but wasn't too impressed. I mentioned something about test driving the '11 550 i xdrive, and the dealer said ok.

I highly reccomend it. That car is amazing in every possible way. Just drive one if you have the opportunity. Fantastic.

I like the F-10. It seems as if they are correcting their mistakes made on the E-60. Has a more classic feel yet sporty line. Might be worth looking into.

i agree that this model is bigger than the previous models, but i think the package works well. i have the m-sport with the active suspension and you can tune it to your mood - comfort or sport. the 8 speed transmission with the turbo works great - power on demand, so much better than the prior model that shifted at random and was slow for a 350 hp car. seats are much more comfortable and the electronics are amazing and responsive. it does feel a bit heavy at low speeds, but it does not act heavy once you initiate a turn. it handles much better in the snow too. no complaints after a few months.

Says the man with a 135 :stickoutt

Sorry, but the 1-series is not a pretty car by any stretch of the word.

Now, back to the F10. I hadn't seen one for a while and it was kind of off my mind (which was good because I still have a year or two until I'm ready to get out of the 3), until this past Sunday. I was sitting at a light and in the next lane over, a couple cars up, was a white 535i, and now it's back on my brain - I love this car!

If we're strictly talking looks, the Jaguar XF is the best-looking midsize luxury car, IMO.

not the marketing team, but someone who knows little to nothing about bmw's or cars in general.

i knew i loved driving bmw's the first second i test drove one and fell in love. then i tried a mercedes-benz. then an audi.

the bmw was my favourite.

i'm not going to try and lie and say i'm an enthusiast or anything like that. i've got expensive taste, and i want a bmw.

I have been watching for the celebrated de-Banglization with a great deal of anticipation. I have seen the new 5's at the dealership and a few in motion locally, and they are gorgeous. It is a much more balanced and natural looking concept than the style it replaces. I have been an avid fan of the touring body as well, and this model promises to be at the top of my fantasy list, right next to the 2010 M5 touring.

The newer BMW's, the 5 included, show how much BMW wants to be Mercedes, while Audi has always been chasing BMW. I'm sure they will always be fun to drive and have awesome engines, but I can't get beyond the non-sporty looks of both the exterior and interior. Luxury, yes, sport, not so much.

I just recently traded my Mercedes and picked up my 550I, I completely enjoyed the test drive and love the car more now that I have had a chance to put some miles on it.
Very fun to drive and sporty for its size..

Love this car. Just ordered a 528i to replace my 2001 E39 530i which was wrecked just before Christmas. Went with the cashmere silver. Tired of black. Yeah Mr Blah, I know my post count is low...

I am a first time BMW owner and just bought a 2011 535 xi. I love the styling and I am very happy with the design of the car - just thought I would cast my vote. I've been browsing this forum for the last few weeks, learning about my new car.

I went to all the dealers (Mercedes, Audi, BMW) this past week, and Mercedes' cars where pretty pitiful. BMW shouldn't want to be Mercedes. Honestly they were that bad.

I'd say BMW and Audi are pretty even. xDrive has nothing on Quattro in my opinion.

Interesting take on Mercedes. I think the E-Class is a stunning vehicle and, with a year head start on the new 5 Series, it has been selling very well. I ultimately purchased a BMW but not because I considered the E-350 to be pitiful. Far from it. As for Audi, not in the running for my money but the world would be less interesting if everyone agreed on everything. :D

I have to agree on the Mercedes E class. Cheap materials in the cabin ruined it for me, and I was truly looking for the Mercedes. Bought a 2011 535i XDrive MSport and am so pleased with this car I can't say enough about it.

BMW doesn't need to try and be more like Mercedes, they have a good thing going and just need to keep with it.

I have an 08 535xi, I just drove the new 550i. The car has definitely been improved compared to previous years. The ride on the new car is incredibly smooth, and the cabin really competes nicely with the new E-class, IMO there is no contest, the BMW has it all over the competition when you're driving it. As far as the looks, I don't like what they have done to the exterior. I think the car looks fat, it has that shark like snout, and the roof line is bubble like. My lease is just about up so I have to make a decision. Since mine only has 11,000 miles on it I just might be keeping until the next style change.:)

Ordered my 2011 Black Sapphire with Oyster Interior and Anthracite wood - 535i and expect it to arrive any day now, after four 3 Series I'm excited about the step up. Loaded it up too, with everything except Adaptive Cruise - who needs a 'ghost' at the wheel- I want to drive!

We drove an 08 528i before we bought a new 11 528i. We notice quite a difference between the two, which is why it was a no-brainer to get the 11 model. Quieter, smoother and better gas mileage. I like it so much that I have just ordered another one. I am having to sell my current one to liquidate a partnership... could not stand the thought of being without it, so ordered up another with a few extra options. :big grin:

Hi

Newbie here. I just ordered a 2012 535i today! Dark graphite with venetian beige. The packages have changed versus 2011, stuff moved around or available individually when compared. Got the m sport package, premium sound, technology and premium package. First in the que and a build date that looks like September.

Any opinions on european delivery? Sounds like a good deal from the limited information I have so far.

Thanks

Just finished up a trip down south about 6 hours. I stll enjoy driving the car very much. Highway cruising with cruise control gives decent gas milage with the added ability to go from 60-100 very quickly. Had to have the program re installed but other than that, pretty much trouble free, does like oil though..

Yes, I love it! I hated the one just previous (E60, E61). I think that BMW agrees - they only kept it around for a couple years. The E39 lasted a full 10 years.
