I'm working on a write up to shove 4 clutches into my E30 LSD. AFAIK the parts port over to basically all other BMW clutch type LSDs.

I'm still confused as to how more clutches effect lock up but this should prove interesting. It's not an aftermarket 12 clutch, but it should lock up quite reliably.

Well. The manual says to flip the dog ear plates. But since you are going to be using both sides for 2 clutches, I'm just going to get new ones. So flip the stock ones for the farthest out clutches, and new dog ear plates to sandwich between two sexy ceramic bimmer world clutches.

Let me know how it turns out as im currently rebuilding a customer diff and was planning on just putting 2 new ones back in.
Is there anyplace else to get these but bimmerworld?

You can order the porsche part number. It's the same thing really. but why go back oem? The bimmerworld ones are much better. Also, you can get extra thick dog ear plates if you want a little extra lockup without having to shove in 2 more clutches.

I was also considering that as I saw the thread on r3v I believe. I didn't think there was anything different between OE and the bimmerworld ones just that they're the only ones who sold them

Nah. I accidentally ordered the porsche ones. The materials are different. Bimmer world ones are ceramic coated and a little bit heavier. It looks more stout to me. The stock clutches looked like 600 grit sandpaper while the bimmerworld ones looked like 200.

Icic good to know. Thanks for the heads up

NP. My guess is that a really good but cheap way to upgrade your clutch is to just get the bimmer world clutches and some thicker dog ear plates.

Werd. And best place to get the thicker dog ears is that porsche site?

If anyone cares, I ran this for a few hot days drifting with about 400whp. I recently tore the diff back down and everything looks barely worn at all. The diff locks great, gives me great control and doesn't really wear that much. WIN!

awesome!
Does it chunk and squeek on tight "parking" turns?
any understeer, like with a welder?

If I give it fairly heavy throttle on a tight U turn (keep in mind I have tie rod spacers) I can hear the tires WANT to chirp but they never do.

No understeer what so ever. I think it could stand to lock a bit harsher but I'll prob do that in my next build.

would it be the same if you machine the housing 1.8 mm.
and go with standard size dogear plates, as opposed to machine 2mm and 2.1mm dogears?

True. I was thinking of shimming more or less but I'd rather have more space in case I need to dial back. IE what if 1.8 made me lock up almost all the time? I'd have to machine it again.

yeah i get way to much understate with the welded, So far.... hows this going for you, how much did you pay for the new clutches?

You should look at other aspects of your setup and driving before you go blaming understeer on the diff.

yeah.
I just ordered the 2mm dog ear plates.
And realised to copy your setup, (which you know is working)
I have to get 2.1mm
You think I will be ok with just machining 1.8 mm?

I paid $75 each for the bimmer world plates. Someone told me they were OEM quality but I'm not sold on that. Pelican sells stock ones for $45 each. Dog ear plates are about $30 for any thickness.

Chelsea's style also works well with a welded. He has been outspoken about his lack of need for front grip.

the 0.2mm overshim was admittedly pretty weak on my part. You could probably do 0.4mm and still be fine. It's up to you really. I haven't tested the bounds of the shim yet. I need to actually test break away torque and such. It's one of my upcoming projects.
