Well, I have the STEP interview in a week and was wondering if some you guys could let me in on how complex the tests are or what questions they might ask in the interview.
I've reading up on my automotive books and even thou I feel confident, I'm still worried about the test.
Any suggestions or help will be highly appreciated.
Thanks guys

As long as you're studying, you will be fine. The questions are multiple choice on general automotive subjects.
Keep in mind that ANY interaction with ANYONE there is considered part of the interview, so be positive to everyone and you'll do great.

I posted this in another thread... this should be helpful for your studying... 35 questions of the 105 or 1/3 of the questions are around engine performance so obviously study that and 17 are on electrical... so half your questions will be either electrical or engine performance
before i took the test, i asked for the number of questions by area and they sent me this.... hope it helps (as you can see... engine performance (http://forums.bimmerforums.com/forum/showthread.php?t=1424459#) and electrical have the most questions)

I have 6 days left to take the CTG exam with the 75 questions. does anyone know what i need to get on the test to pass/ or is it a general test to see what your strong points are? I found this thread and it was very helpful, i appreciate your help. I had a question about the interview. Since im located in Colorado the interview will be video based? does anyone know any specific questions they ask that would/could be helpful for me to know?
PS: graduating from Lincoln College of Tech. in 6 weeks GPA 3.8 attendance 99.1% what are my chances like?
Any responses will be much appreciated and helpful
thanks

Hey, good luck. I won't say about testing/interviewing. I flew down from CO to AZ for my interview, and some did video.
I graduated Lincoln Tech 12/11, with 3.99 GPA and 99.9% attendance. It is possible to get in. As far as your chance to get in, let me put it this way... I am 1/16 in my class that didn't graduate from UTI, and I couldn't tell you the last time anyone came in from Lincoln/DADC. If you worked hard and have the drive, you can do it.

I ended up just driving from CO to Phoenix AZ for my interview. Got accepted and started class 4 months later.
As long as you have good knowledge for the test, clean background and good work experience, you should be ok.
It seems that most people can't get in because of grades, bad attendance or poor/lack of work experience.

If you can pass ASE test's you can pass the technical test.
You should know exactly what you want when you start the face to face interview. Dress the best you can afford. You should have real world work experience relating to automotive repair. You should know where you want to get a job.
I was master ASE going into face to face interview and it lasted 2 hours...
My suggestion is, if you have automotive knowledge under control, google great interview questions. You will wish you had...

Eh somewhat.... Although in the CTG test they won't ask about a Chrysler 3 speed auto trans where they would in an ASE. I think the study material will still apply in general though. They like to hear a lot about passion for the brand in the interview. If you don't have it I wouldn't fake it as it will likely be awkward. ASE's don't apply much after the interview. BMW and a lot of shops won't recognize or care about them though. Just be yourself and be honest. Good luck.

It's getting harder and harder to get in from what I have heard. It's really up to you though. If you want it you will get it. If you don't want it you won't. When I applied, failure was not an option. 4.0 GPA, 100% attendance, Ford FACT, work experience consisting of R&D for the leading aftermarket company for the Lotus Elise/Exige platform in the country, the only problem was 2 points on my driving record. I had these going into UTI knowing it was the maximum. When I applied I was initially denied due to my driving record. After a lot of persistence I was finally accepted. Graduated top of my class and was the first to be hired out of my class despite my "undesirable" driving record.
If you have made it this far, you can make it in and out of STEP. It is all up to you.
