steering wheel wont go down sometimes

ok.. so today was the second time it happened... when i started teh car, the steering wheel didnt move down.. i had to manually set it again. and set the memory.. anybody else have this problem w/ their e39 540's?

yea.. the seat memory module is busted...CPO?

if not then I cannot help as I had mine replaced

the seat memory still works though.. hmm~ its no big deal really .. i think i can deal with it right now

yes... that is a sign of the problem.... I think thety have to replace the whole seat / memory module

When this happened on "other" boards, the proposed fix was to replace the module... when I complained to my dealer that the steering would not always drop into position... they found a TSB that covered it and replaced the module


issue: wheel does not drop into position all the time... hittingthe correct seat memory button will make it drop... sound familiar?

I've had the same problem twice.
When fiddling with the fuses , the problem rectified itself.
Seemed to be a bad electrical connection.

The position memory of the seat still remained after the loss of connection.

Mine has done that a few times. I have CPO on it for almost 2 more years so I haven't worried about it too much yet.

ok... so a lOong time ago i posted a problem w/ frequent steering wheel control failure.. now~ id have to say its a real problem. its completely dead.

so now my steering wheel wont go up or down, and my seat controls wont work either.

before i take it in to bmw, does anybody have any recommendations or solutions to this problem.. perhaps some part numbers, or fuses? thanks for the help!

ok.. so i bought the driver seat control module today.. approx 110. not exactly what i was planning on spending when i heard it was only 60 from crevier.. which is where i bought my part as well..

anywaz.. the part number changed in case anyone else is having this problem.. 61 35 6 904 243. i also found this PN.. 61-31-6-910-717. that might be the memory module on the door.. god i hope i bought the right fix.

anywaz.. now that i have it. can somebody tell me where to install it.. like in the seat? in the door? under the dash?

It looks like it's beneath the seat, we'll do ours together as soon as the parts arrive.

hey tom.. i just tried to install it... looks like that pn is wrong too... i took my seat control module out of my drivers seat.. im gonna switch it at crevier today.. msrp 80 bucks..so yea.. looks like it'll be about 60..ehehheheh.. yes!
