I had 4 broken buttons on the HVAC panel. They didn't have any cracks but the top left tab on all of them was missing and they were pretty loose, falling down every once in a while. Yesterday I decided to do something about it and grabbed an old CD case, cut a few bits of black plastic out of it (from the back), and super-glued it to the buttons at the approximate position of the original tabs (using pliers). Obviously they ended up being too big, so I took a nail cutter and proceeded to give them the appropiate shape. The result was nothing short of great, and now all my buttons look like new. :)
I also took the time to disassemble the whole unit to clean and oil the air sampler fan. I did make the big mistake of removing the frontal circuit board (trust me, don't do it), just because I wanted to clean that up as well in case that would be causing the bottom 2 rows of pixels in the screen not showing up.
