When I was looking for a transmission a fellow member, Lavalamp, pointed me to these places:
1.) ABC Used Parts, Inc. USA-CO(Colorado-Springs) 1-800-456-6597
2.) Strandberg Auto USA-WI(Centuria) 1-800-448-5121
3.) Central Texas Auto Recyclers USA-TX(Brownwood) 877-646-6020 / 325-646-6020
I went with CTAR and got one for my 86 635csi with $100,000 for $400 with shipping and warranty

I've got one but it didn't shift very well when I removed it. Maybe it just needs a little TLC.
you can have it free if you pay for the shipping (which will be fairly expensive)

Hi, I have an auto tranny from a 1987 which was hit in the rear. Tranny worked fine after accident and has ~150k on it. Let me know if you are interested. Thanks

What year is your car? I have a great condition auto from and '89 in North Seattle with service records and fluid change evidence from day 1. Let me know if you're interested or one of your other options doesn't work out.

Do you have the "EH" transmission (electronic switch sport-manual)?

Look for a switch on the shift console. I believe it has three selections... something like "S" "1,2,3" Look below at the switch circled in red.

This is a very important. If you don't have that switch, you are looking for a ZF 4hp-22. If you have it, you are looking for a ZF4hp22-EH.
