hi i think this is the right place to ask this?
my red 328 has had most of the laquer peelined off, the only place where it hasnt peeled is the bonnet and roof.
the places where it has peeled is pink and dull.
the car only cost me £900 so i dont want to pay alot on sorting the paint out,
so my question is how to sort my paint out?
can i t-cut the dull places to bring the colour back and the reaply laquer over it again?
thanks

It sounds like you are better off fully prepping the car and doing a roller-job on it. If you are a little meticulous about it, these jobs can actually turn out pretty decent.

Here's one I found:: http://www.r3vlimited.com/board/showthread.php?t=92000&highlight=roller+paint

And another:

best of luck!

Lacquer?

How old is this car? From the 1960's or maybe 1970's? Or repainted in someone's garage?

If this is the factory paint and the car is newer than 1980 than it probably has a clear coat and what you're seeing isn't "lacquer" peeling off it's the factory clear layer coming off the colored layer and most of the time basecoats don't polish to a high gloss, they get their gloss from the color coat.

I wrote an article about years ago on Meguiar's Online but here's the most recent version on AG

The Clearcoat Failure Photo Gallery Archive (http://www.autogeekonline.net/forum/rough-draft/19985-clearcoat-failure-photo-gallery-archive.html)

The basecoat layer of paint under the clearcoat layer is generally dull or flat, even when brand new; it gets it's gloss and clarity from the clear layer of paint on top of it. Once the clear layer flakes or peels off you cannot polish it to make it look good again as it has a flat or matte appearance.

If it is in fact what we call Clearcoat Failure then the only honest repair is to repaint the affected areas or the entire car.
