looks good! i've got a slightly bent style 5 from my sister's E39 and i've been thinking about experimenting on that. if i like it, i might end up getting some other style 5's to refinish and put on my e36.

I used a file to get the rash smooth then wet sanded the crap out of it.

Duplicolor wheel paint I believe, Ill check tomorrow. Just cheap stuff from autozone. I think they came out as dark as they did is because I sandblasted them down to bare alum. Then self etching primer, then two coats of filler primer. If I end up doing another set I will actually mix some paint and do them up the right way.

Def take them apart. It would be a pain in the ass to polish around the bolts and valve stem. And as far as I know when you take the wheels apart you have to dismount the tire, I think having the tire on could warp the barrel. Dont hold me to that but I think it might.

This is really the only before pic I have.

As far as cost probably 40-50 in paint and primer. I had the paint stripper and I sandblasted the faces. But I had all the blast media.
http://i8.photobucket.com/albums/a30/theseeker411/freshsandblasted.jpg
You will need some wet/dry sand paper, I would recommend 400/600/800/1200 at least.
The other costly part is the polish and compounds that I use are 50 bucks a can, but I already had it.

Awesome! What kind of polish and compounds are we talking about? What kind of time does this process take without sandblasting?
So if I undestand this:
1. Dismantle
2. Paint removal
3. Sanding
4. Primer
5. Paint
6. Polish
7. Reassemble
8. Install
9. Ball
(Before anyone gives me the google bash, I have, Just looking for more input, and love the work Mpower did)

I use Nuvite polishes, very good stuff. They sponsor my dads plane so I get it cheap.
As far as steps, you pretty much have it down. Paint stripper to get the clear off anything you are going to polish, sand for what you are not going to polish. Here is a good how to on polishing.

I know its on stanceworks and not everyone is a fan of that site, but I have been polishing alum for about 10 years now and that is one of the best write ups I have ever seen.

if you're leaving them polished and not clear coating them.... definately hit them with "Mothers Aluminum Polish"... then apply 2 coats of "Wheel Wax"... you can get wheel wax from Auto Geek...
this will help prevent pit marks from brake dust ...

Actually, you dont. You can safely remove the center of the style 5 without removing the tire.
That how I freshen up my style 5's every winter. I remove the center and hit the lips with a mothers power ball and mag polish. Then of course a final coat of Wheel Wax.

Oh ok, I wasn't sure and didn't want to risk it.
Anyway here is a quick pic of them mounted. It needs spacers and maybe bigger tires but it looks good.

Oh the paint is cooked on it, if I could fix it with a buffer it would have been done.
