yeah the stock 9006 halogens blow hard. upgrade to a HID kit and you should be set.

Are your glass lenses clean. The insides get quite dirty over time. Nothing a little polident and water won't fix.
Other option is silverstar bulbs

Before I went to HIDs I did the 9005 conversion. It was better. But with the 9005 ultra brights costing almost $50 a pair, and only lasting a few months, do yourself a favor and get some HIDs. That has been one of the best mods for me to date.

Get some Euros, run H1s, then upgrade to HID. :D

The best value upgrade for lows and highs is HIR 9012 and 9011's. They are almost as bright as HIR's (very close), last longer than normal bulbs AND don't use anymore power than normal bulbs. I have them in my Highs and they are the brightest highbeams I've ever seen.
I really like my HID lows and almost have them sorted but if I was doing it over, I'd feel foolish for not putting in HIR's and calling it a day.
