noob here to the self-diagnosing OBDII bit. for my 2001 525it what tool/software would i need to read codes such as the current traction control and airbag lights (interested in ability to read any potential code, not just these 2)...what is the best bang-for-the-buck on these?

thanks!

You can buy the cables from Car Soft West, or look around for some cheaper cables! There is lots of info in this section.

If you just have the software you still need the interface (box) that talks to your computer via the serial port.

I use this one:

ebay link (http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=320458271632&viewitem=&sspagename=STRK:MEWAX:IT#ht_1522wt_1166)
The connecting cable is a bit short but it work perfectly on my DIS44 installation.
