View Full Version : Partnumber for European SI board

Hi guys,
I have been looking through the online parts catalogs (realoem and bmwfans.info), but can't find any partnumber related to the actual printed circuit board with the batteries on it.
My dealer doesn't seem to have anything on it either. Lots of parts around it, lightbulbs, screws, dials etc, but not the actual board itself. Are these NLA ?
I know that some company makes some battery-less boards, but only for the US versions it seems.
Are there any differences really, are they compatible ?
My car (M635) is from 08/1984 and has what seems, still an early implementation of the SI. (judging by the inspection and oil change lights).

There may not be a difference between US and non/US SI boards. There is a definitely a difference between early and late clusters. I'm not sure about the cut off date but our '83 euro took the small Programma daughter card type board: Early SI board (http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/62111394273-Battery-less-BMW-SI-Board-E23-E24-E28_W0QQcmdZViewItemQQhashZitem1c0f050b1bQQitemZ12 0511073051QQptZMotorsQ5fCarQ5fTruckQ5fPartsQ5fAcce ssories) and our RIP US spec '87 took the later type SI circuitry that was integrated into the main instrument cluster board.

I did check bmwfans.info
Not much to be had there. Same for my dealer, he has the same useless info (in my case).
Guess I'll have to see first what's actually in there before making any decisions. I dread the idea of having to take the whole thing out but I will.

The early cars, euros for sure, do not use a board per se, put rather a printed circuit on clear flexible plastic that goes from gauge to gauge etc!!

For 5/82 to 1/86 euro
It is shown on realOEM and other sites but is sold as an assembly of conductor plate with cover plate.
I have replaced mine with the battery-less unit and I seem to remember a jumper that was different for US and euro. It was a while since I installed it but there was a jumper for something that could be positioned differently and I did install this in a euro model. Check with programma; I am sure they can answer the question.

EVERYTHING electrical is different on the euro cars. It sucks because I can't even use a US defroster switch. When I got my euro M635 car, the battery drained a couple of times and I actually noticed a couple of rust stains on the drivers front floor mat. The si lights don't work anymore (were when I got it). I suspect the rust stains are from the batteries. I am going to check it out eventually but I service my car more frequently than the SI boards would advise anyway.
Is there any problems with, not having working SI lights? everything works as it should besides the defroster and a couple of options (the headlight adjust/wash wipe) and alarm.

I installed the Programma batteryless SI board in my 7/84 Euro with no issues. The extra wire that is optional on the replacement board was not used.

That's good to hear. And everything works without a hitch ?
If I fail to fix mine, I'll just order the ebay one!

Yup, all works great. Been in for nearly a year now and no problems.

I need of repair for my euro 7/84 cluster #62111394270
Google searches show up the one mentioned below.
I see some hear have used the xxxxxxx4273 cluster.
What is that optional wire spoken of in above posts? Just abandoned when installed in euro?
Have yet to call programma but this is moving up my list of repairs to do on my euro.
My SI lights wont stay reset and temp gauge is erratic.

Or if the SI board looks Ok (batteries didn't leak or clean up Ok), just replace the batteries on the board.
Awesome
Going to order the 4273 board from Programma on Monday for my 84 euro and cross my fingers but according to this thread all should be good with it.
