I'm about to acquire a set of used bbs rs2 wimz. The guy I'm getting them from says he doesn't know how to remove that polished stainless steel rim protector that hides the wheel weights.
I've seen where a few guys here, or maybe it was just one, removed this piece had it buffed out and painted copper color and put them back on.

I'm just trying to figure out where I can find instructions on how to properly remove and replace this "rim protector" as bbs dubs it.

Could someone provide these instructions or point me in the right direction, please.

Thanks

yes

the lip and barrel are one whole, the center is bolted in

the same construction as style5's :

here's a big DIY thread for style 5's:

hope this helps

I dont think theyre one whole thing.
this is the bbs rs2.
is has hidden weight technology behind the stainless steel lip.

ive been made to understand that the little lip is removable and replaceable. So it cannot be one with the barrel.
Here is the CK2, which shares similar features, so im wondering if youre right and the wheel hsa to be separated or not. But its def not 1 with the barrel.

ahaa! thats new to me! :)

yeah, you have to remove the centers, that ring is between the center and the actual lip

Called BBS, 1 800 422 7972 spoke to a cool dude named Mike, and you are somewhat right.
BBS will NOT sell the bolt, or the bands to anyone, not even dealers for liability reasons.
He said the band is adhered to the barrel, with adhesive and then sandwiched between the barrel and the center.

So they do the repair bands at a cost of $250 or $270 (i already forgot) + shipping, and in the process they check for roundness, etc.
He did say that i could check with a local shop and get it buffed out possibly.
But of course they dont recomend we pull the wheels apart as the loctite used is hella strong and if the head is damaged, then youre basically screwed.

Suddenly the 2 or 3 scuffs on it dont seem so bad anymore :)

The adapter for the hidden air valve is $6 each.

thanks Luke :)

the only way to do it is to disassemble the wheel, and rip the stainless lip off, then get all the adhesive off and then paint or polish the aluminum itself.

How do i know what size center caps will fit these RS 2 rims.
i cant find info on RS, super RS, RM, and countless other, but nothing on the RS II.

Anyone know?

Awesome. Thanks. I'll pop mine out and see if I see a part # or measure it if I don't.
Thanks man, you've been a tremendous help.

One of those areas and more power to protect yourself against this on their usage and great site-mapping.

BBS does have a number of different caps for their wheels. They are not all the same. We can check with the wheel part number on the correct center cap. If i can help let me know.
