OK so I just got this eclipse headunit. I hook it up and I'm pretty sure I smelled smoke and now everytime I hook it back up it makes a noise right before my fuse blows. Anybody have an idea as to what I could be doing wrong?

Double check to make sure that your positive terminal isn't shorting to ground (or worse yet, make sure you didn't wire it this way by mistake). That would cause you to blow a fuse in pretty short order.

This happened to me when I was installing a headunit in my dad's truck.

Also, I've noticed that with some units, they have a tendency to blow fuses when they're not completely installed (i.e. just hanging out), because they also need to grounded to the chassis.

I think most aftermarket head units draw more power than what was supplied from the factory. Fuse #12 (7.5a) powers the head unit, but also powers a few other things. My JVC is fused for 10 amps, and I had to run a separate power supply with higher amp fuse to keep from blowing fuse #12.
