Hey, my dad is looking into maybe getting an E24 M6 and he was wondering what would be a good price for one with mid 100k miles?

Like 16k?

TIA

That would be a decent price with good interior, clean engine and mechanicals, good paint and good PPI of the rear suspension. Any problems with M specific parts is EXPENSIVE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Thanks. What usually goes wrong with the rear suspension?

the 88 has a self leveling hydraulic suspension.

Besides the M engine, the most expensive things are rust, paint, and the interior. Suspension is easy to change. You can get a really nice one for $16k these days, it shouldn't need any work at all.

Why go M6 when you can go M635 for cheaper? $12.5K.

No affiliation. It really is a buyer's market out there.

The SLS in the rear often goes bad and is EXPENSIVE to repair. You can easily pull the parts and box them, then replace with a conversion kit to use regular shocks. Or you can convert to coilovers.

That M635 is a great buy. The only thing it doesn't say is if corsachili changed out the cam chain tensioners.

There are lots of variables for M6/M635's. My car has 93K and I'd sell it for over $20K. There are lots of nice examples at that mileage for $16K though. Mainly I'd look for a car with good history and maint., and from a seller that knows E24 M-cars. A "bargain" M6/M635 can eat you out of house and home...
