Replacing the 635 JPS car Jim Richards moved onto the M3 Evo. 2.4 litres of light weight twin cam you can see why he did. Here he goes head to head with Peter Brock in his 500 plus hp 5 litre V8. Note the ex JPS 6 series car in the first 3 seconds, me thinks!

I didn't know Jim Richards drove an M3. He's a nice bloke, I met him at Amaroo when I took a club car there.

HOLY CRAP!!

That is some fancy wheel work from Richards. That is what makes racing awesome. That seems like a pretty short track which would put the M3 in favor over the Holden. Talk about a great demonstration of power to weight!

Also think about how much fuel consumption is different between the two...

Incredible driving. Love to see it when a car with half the motor can give the big guy a run for his money.

I sent that video to a guy who is running an S14 in his 2002 race car. Currently, running a 276/284 combo cam, amongst other internal modification, and naturally aspirated, is makine 306BHP. His estimate is that the car in the video is running at least that, but most likely a bit more. He said with a 309/316 race cam, and sometimes bigger, that they can coax 360bhp out of them.

360hp from a 2.4 litre 4 pot? I need to get one of these in the next few years.

yea im sure the compression ratio is in the 12:1 or higher range for those motors though to get that kind of power as well.

this S14 powered 2002 im talking about is weighing in under a ton with driver and a full fuel tank. Although he never fills it all the way because it sips fuel compared to the bigger motors and cars he is up against. His next mod is to go from a 265 CR box to a 6spd sequential unit....
