faulty dme (engine computer)

I have a 2005 base model mini with 11000 miles. My girlfriend rear ended a truck, and caused considerabable damage which has beeen repaired except for the computer which has been diagnoised as faulty by the local mini specialists. A new computer csts 2000 plus labor to flash. So I bought a used one from a wrecking yard with matching numbers, but when the shop tried to reset it, they couldnt figure out how to get past the theft deterrent system. Does anyone know how to do this? Or should I just drop another 2500 into my car?

Sorry but you can't use a DME from another car. They are VIN specific coded and you can't change that or the EWS(antitheift) coding. So it will never work in your car.
