I was talking with Bloodhound50's dad tonight who is over on the E39 realm. He is doing a Tranny/clutch swap on his 99 540msport.
He was telling me that people experience chattering with the lightweight flywheels from companies like UUC.

Is anyone here running either a lightweight flywheel or a single mass flywheel?

and if so is there anymore noise that is noticeable?

I drove a UUC-ed 99 540i/6 for about 2 years. The chatter was barely present. I really don't remember hearing it much at all. I mostly recall that it was a ton of fun to drive.

Shouldn't it be "singlemass/lightweight vs. dualmass/heavyweight"? Most lightweights are single-mass...

My personal experience is that most don't make any noise, and those that do are very quiet and not annoying, especially in a heavily insulated BMW. FWIW, I'm running a ~15# singlemass (UUC's V12 conversion one) with a sprung clutch. The interior is still apart so I have no sound deadening, and I can't hear anything at all from the trans, which has ~156k on it. That said, I've yet to run AC or even get the engine warmed up.

By singlemass I meant the e28 one but after doing some searching it seems that would only reallƯ work for a m30

I'm not sure if this is of any help, but on the m20 e30 car I have a single mass factory flywheel that's been cut down to 14lbs. (from 19lbs). I have no noise or chatter of any kind. I know a few guys have run the UUC flywheel and at least one has communicated to me that he had no problems. I also found this post http://edu.cqdx.gov.cn/bmw/161099.html
stating that UUC recommends using Redline MT90 in the trans. Between the new fluid and after the break in period of the sprung hub clutch disk it should be very quiet.

I've had a JBR 13lb flywheel for probably 4-5 years and it's great... can only hear the chatter at idle with the a/c on and even then it's not bad.

installing one of these this winter before the car sees pavement in the spring
really looking forward to the change, hope it's all you kicked it up to be ;)

Paired with a 3.15lsd it's about the best you can do for these cars performance wise short of f/i.

I just put in a JB racing flywheel with 3.15lsd it rips through first and second now. Defiantly worth it. I haven't had any chatter issues yet even with the unsprung clutch.

Good to know. I have a 12lb FW and 3.23LSD waiting to go in the Touring. I can't wait :buttrock
The e30 is so easy to keep in the "happy spot" with the lighter flywheel. Blip the throttle between shifts and the revs stay exactly where I want them.
