Hey all, I have a major problem that I need help with; about a week and a half ago, the water pump on my M5 fragged, and pretty much took the fan out with it, now, I can get the pump, and the fan, but I need some help with the installation. Would anyone out there in Bimmerland happen to have a service manual or diagram that would have water pump replacement on an S38? :help

Couple of bolts on the front of it, one on the intake side through the block, pretty straight forward job, be sure to clean the block's gasket surface with a new razor blade to remove all old gasket material. I would antiseize the bolts before installation, but that's just me. Use a factory new gasket, should be included with the WP, don't use RTV or silicon sealer, the gasket is sufficient.

Hey, I appreciate the help you've given, but I hit a bit of a snag, I have some bracket blocking the last bolt, and I can't tell what size the bolt is. Anyone know? I'm thinking that it's probably 13mm, but I'm not sure, and I have extremely little room to work with, I should probably get a universal extension to get in there, huh?:help

Gotta get tools to fix stuff and good tools cost much less than a bad mechanic. And congrats on doing it yourself. I once pulled a u-joint off a 1958 ford when it was -30 degrees outside. Thems were the days!

You're lucky it didn't take out your hood.

pulling the radiator will give you more room to work. Though not totally necessary, it's not a difficult step, for some extra space. You can give it a good clean and look over this way too.
