View Full Version : The gravitational pull of an E34

So yesterday I went by the mall, parked, and when I came back there was an E34 540i on one side and an E31 pulling into the spot on the other side, so we chatted for a little then I left.

Tonight I park way out in the parking lot (to avoid the standard closeparking-door dinging-jackoffs) at a local restaurant and when I'm walking to my car to leave a guy in a debadged E34 pulls in next to me and starts checking out my car as he makes his gf wait around before they go to some other restaurant.

maybe tomorrow when I go to Vegas I'll get surrounded by E34's :D (one could only hope for such a joyous occurrence)

On an unrelated but still E34 topical note before I tear my dash apart again/while it's dark out, does anyone know what would cause the center dash vents like these ones:

to not flow hot air? I get hot air from the feet and the top vents, and when I do A/C I get cold air from the center dash vents, but never any heater air. When I scroll the wheel in the middle I hear something that sounds like an electrical click at the top/bottom, but nothing ever changes. Think it's the cable or the actuator or whatever controls those vents? And if it's the actuator, where would it be located?

Is it only that center one that doesn't give you hot air? Do the ones on each end of the dash board that connect to the door blow hot air? Could be not circulating.

no, I'm sorry I'm an idiot and omitted that fact

the ones on the doors don't blow hot either

Stepper motor: DC positionally controlled motor: The motor that controls the vent diverter position. On the far left, there is a second wheel that is red/blue. It controls the level of cool fresh air vs heated air coming through the center vents. If the side vents don't blow either, I'm betting on the motor. Really dumb question, but you have moved the little slider for the vent to open right? :P

ya, I'm just barely smarter than that. And when I had the underside of my dash torn out while replacing my microfilter last week I noticed that the center slide's cable wasn't mounted correctly (it wasn't braced so it would just flop instead of actually move anything when moved) so I fixed that and hoped it would fix my problem, sadly to no avail.

can't seem to find anything called a stepper motor on realoem

is it the actuator?

See the two recessed areas under PN 3, if you think about it could be flaps there. I believe thats it.

All of the number 1's in that diagram are stepper motors.
