Hey guys i'm thinking about maybe making an offer on this car. Tell me what you think. Anything I should be wary about as far as the E34 540's go? Any comments are appreciated.

I sent him an email asking if there were any problems with the car and he said, "The car does have a small coolant leak. I dropped the price to accommodate this. I have the maintenance records."
thanks

Car is good. Has the alusil engine, thats good. Ask him where the leak is. Working on the v8 in our engine bays can be a biotch but the cars are great. Looks wise I'd like your iC but thats about the only area I'd prefer the e36. You will need to run high octane in the E34. Prepared to do maintenance yourself?

I'm not knocking the seller nor his car. Look, all I'm saying is that mine is a much more desirable car (depending on what you like, of course) with no potential auto tranny issues, and for near the same money. I'm known here on the board and have given a very detailed dissertation of all of the "negatives" with my car. So worth the additional $300...

As long as you like red (some don't, I do) and the manual transmission....Filmy's car is the much more desirable choice. The 6-speed is much more rare, is more fun, and those wheels he has is easily worth the extra $300.
Good luck with your search!

I already use 93 or 91 in my 325. And I really love my 325ic and its only got 85k miles and its really in great shape inside and out. But its also my only car and my daily driver as I'm only 22 yrs old. I'm just not sure I want to keep a convertible as a long term daily driver.
And my father's got a real good friend who has always done the maintenance on our cars that we couldn't do ourselves, and he always cuts us a good deal. So as long as nothing crazily expensive or complex goes wrong I should be fine.

Good luck with your search! Well, he's in Tennessee and I'm in Los Angeles, and shipping ain't free. There are ways...
But THANKS, Pope! (You're right, by the way)

Filmy your car has over twice as many miles on the engine, and has some cosmetic issues. Not to mention your car is 3,000 miles away from me haha.
But honestly I love the red with black leather. Probably my favourite combo for these cars. good luck with your sale !

You're right, technically. But a car is more than the miles on the engine. Because I've been completely upfront about the shortcomings of my car as well as the high points, I have no doubt that you would find similar (or worse) with this car. I know you're not busting on mine (no offense taken), but to consider any used car a buyer should get complete, honest information from the start. No time, money or emotion wasted/spent. I challenge you to go see this black car. Drive it and get the transmission checked with a PPI. If it's in as good shape as the seller claims, you'd be a fool to not buy it. If not, you'll look twice at mine, distance be damned.
GL in your search!
