I just replaced the alternator, disconnected the battery to do so. reconnected the battery and the battery light was on but it was still able to crank the car over and turn it on. Now my stereo, windows, sunroof, and wipers won't work, also my int lights won't turn on when i open my door but they will when i manually turn them on. Car runs fine, headlights work, blinkers work, brake lights work...but not those aforementioned items. Whatado
I have an aftermarket stereo and i can't input a code as its a 2009 pioneer headunit so therefore i am clearly uncapable of inputting a code although I do have the code from the previous owner. When you disconnect the battery are these the accessories that are supposed to go out prior to entering the stereo code? Or do i have blown fuses? I don't have an fsm which fuses are the ones for the wipers, stereo and windows? I don't have any blown fuses under the fuse box under the hood so what now?

I drove it around last night for a while to try and re-charge the battery via the alt (i know your supposed to trickle charge it, but i don't have a charger) and it clearly didn't work as now my battery is dead enough to not start the car. So i'm off to get a warrantied battery today.

BTW for those who may need an alternator in the near future don't get a reman duralast unit from autozone. It was the fitment from hell, bottom mounting point wouldn't fit around the block bracket so i had to grind the edges of the alternator with an angle grinder. I get it on and the intake tube in no way matches up to the stock tube going to the fender. I had to custom make my own intake tube for my new pos alternator. Hopefully it last.

great thanks you rock man, i should have also mentioned that my door locks wouldn't work...so those 80amp fuses should fix it then.

so those 80amp fuses should fix it then.

Assuming they're the problem. Fusible links are common to weird intermittent electrical issues.

However if that doesn't fix it and you can read schematics, then prepare to spend some time reading through this http://www.e38.org/e34/e34_89_etm.pdf

It's a pretty common failure on old E34s, drives some mechanics crazy trying to find the problem especially since the fusible link(s) tend to be buried on most E34 models. One mechanic ended up manually rewiring half the car after failing to find the cause of the electrical fault.

Wow thanks for the schematics on my car, I’ve been thinking about acquiring that just for safe keeping...this forum is better than a set of big ole titty's floppen around in my face. And nirvana dude; that would not be fun, the wiring in these cars is very nicely done up and quite sturdy in my opinion. I would not want to tear into it. I don't think i could replicate the cleanliness bmw did with the harness if i tried. One thing’s for sure is duralast couldn’t replicate their own ass if they tried. Friggen a

so i had girlfriend just pick me up to go get new battery and fusable links. The links were not cracked and they looked fine. I took both of them out, inspected them, tried to ask for a set at the auto store, they didn't have em. So i put them back in and i'm still having the same problems. My car still shows the battery light when i shut it off. The bat light does not go off. I'm affriad its going to drain my brand new battery as that may have been what happened last night. Can the fusable links go out with out looking cracked and corroded? Its raining and the highest wiper setting on my wiper motor is the only one that works. Its all very strange.

btw i only had 3 wires going into my fusable link box by the battery and the link was a 90amp not 80.
