Whats everyone's opinions on the best e30 for the money. I am looking into getting a project car going. Sometime maybe I'm just dreaming. If someone could direct me to somewhere that I can find all the differences in the different models it'd be great. I'd really like to get a convertable 325i around 88 or so but I think they're a little pricy. All opinions welcome.

Okay, here goes.
325, 325e and 325es have the 2.7 "eta" engines w/ lots of low end torque but @ 120 hp. There is a rev limiter that kicks in @4750 rpms. Pretty bulletproof motors. Cars were made from 84-88. '88 models were the super "eta" variety w/ the "i" cylinder head and a little more power. Cheap project car would be an old 325es and you build it up per BMPD's race car specs.
325i, 325is and 325ix have the 2.5 "i" engines w/ @167 hp. Great motors. The "ix" model is the all wheel drive version.
In 1989, BMW changed the design of the bumpers to the plastic type w/ an integrated front airdam. The rear bumpers were also changed to the plastic type. 1984-1988 E30s have the aluminum safety bumpers that stick out alot more, but do provide greater impact protection.
