Good evening gentlemen,

BLUF

the fuel thats in the tank has been sitting in the tank for about 10 months. The build will be complete in another 30 - 60 days. My only real concern is the fuel pump, everything else will be new or rebuilt. What should i do before the first start:

drain tank and replenish with new fuel?

start and go get fresh fuel as soon as possible?

I've had a car sit 1 year and run fine on the "old" gas. I just drove and filled with premium immediately, then let that tank run down to fully empty before refilling.
FWIW the E34 I own sat in a bar at least 6mo with a tank full of gas prior to my purchase. Drove away a-ok.

Barn. Barn. Damn, years of spending too much time in one myself have led to occasional drafts in my rafters.

My car sat for ~8 months or so and fired up fine on the old fuel. It had around a half tank, so I filled it, then ran through the tank, and refilled. No big deal. I was initially planning on draining it, but ran out of time.

I know there is at least 1 guy on bfc that popped his motor after letting the gas sit too long in the tank. Granted it had been at least 6 months and he put it on the dyno knowing this but never expected the broken pistion outcome.

I say drive on it if you need to get around but get through that tank and fill up as soon as you can.

so basically what i hear is, drain it (siphon) and replenish with fresh fuel before first start? Do you guys think the fuel pump will be fine? I do.

You're breaking in the engine anyway, right? If that's the case, you won't be boosting and the old gas is fine. If you plan on boosting right away, drain it and fill with fresh fuel.

I've had the same tank of gas in my car for almost 3 years now and no problems...

Long story, but the car has only been driven ~100 miles over the last three years due to some engine problems I've been battling with since my car was converted back to stock after I had my turbo removed...

I think I might have finally found the problem so I'll definitely be driving her more in the near future! :buttrock

+1 Keep it out of boost and you should be fine.

Except you should be breaking the motor in WITH boost...

easy fix, just siphon out the fuel and then drive.
