My car failed emissions today.
I need a new cat converter. Who sell them for our cars
without needing a co-signer to buy it.

Magnaflow makes good products. Unless you can weld, it's best to find a local shop that can order/install a Magnaflow for you.

Thanks Jose,
I can't weld. Do you know what part number I need?
About how much do these cats cost?
What cost is fair for a weld job?

Well, I had an answer for you, but it was based on my experience. That's unfair as I can weld. Also, I'm in California and it's "different" round these here parts. The model you HAVE to buy is specified by new laws in California.
If you are in Texas, I think you can buy any 49 state model. It looks to me like the Magnaflow 99008HM would be the easiest to weld in. It's a 2-in, 2-out config., but I am having trouble finding pricing online. That could mean it's expensive, which would be in the $300 or so range. If it's me and I'm going with a custom setup, I would buy a 2.5" in/out catalytic, a couple of y adapters and just cut out the old catalytic and use the pieces I bought to make the repair. That would be around $100 in parts and a muffler shop should definitely be able to make those pieces work for you. So you could figure on an hour or two of shop labor plus parts. I guess that might come in around $250 - $300. I say that if a shop wants more than that to use their catalytic of choice, they are starting to gouge you.

Get a DEC....excellent quality, free flows, bolts straight up and you're done. But I'm lazy (and can't weld) and running around muffler shops getting custom jobs fabbed up is not my idea of a good time.

I just checked out the DEC unit. It sounds like a pretty good option.

They have basically done what I would recommend anyway, but it's a bolt on part. Not a bad option. Thinking more about it, a straight through catalytic with some flared ends could probably replace the catalytic on your type of exhaust so it might only be the cost of a catalytic a foot or two of pipe and some labor. Maybe $200 or so. If you were closer I'd say to buy the parts and bring them by. I think we could knock that out for you pretty quickly.

Borrow one.
If you can't do that, wait.
If you can't do that, go to a muffler shop and get it fabbed up or buy oem.
If you can't do that, pay the piper.
I wouldn't do that, so pay the exhaust man.
I have a magnaflow downpipe, cat, and a lot of other people do too.
Call Atlantic euro, these guys are good and they'll work with you to get you what you need to pass test, but you may have to go to sharkfest to get it, you better be going anyway.

Try www.catcoglobal.com (http://www.catcoglobal.com). Direct fit for your car (no welding), wide US distribution, $250 plus at several web dealers. Just put one on my 87 M6.

I have a Magnaflow on my car I got from Jegs and had it put in my swappable setup for around $200 total by a local race exhaust place.

Im in the market too. I have spoken with many people who have told me that the O2 sensor can cause problems with a cheapie cat. Turner sells the DEC so it hink that would be good. The magna flows are 300. why?

I just looked at my cat.
It is a one in and one out garden variety.
It (may) read a date of 11/06 0n it. It looks
like a cheap generic unit. I only need it to work
for 20 minutes while I pass my stupid emissions test.
After that I don't care.
I might have done in my cat unplugging my O2 sensor for a years worth
of driving. It had a lumpy, bumpy idle with it , and silky smooth
with it off line. I went to the smooth idle and that might have toasted
the cat. Others here have said the O2 unplugged will shorten the life.

I bought a bosal bolt on complete cat unit through world pack for about $250.00 I buy my parts through a shop I know the owner of. He gives me a good deal on stuff, and shipping isn't a large cost when buying it that way.
