Here are the details for the upcoming meet :buttrock

Where: Plan to meet up in Sausalito at 10AM.

UPDATE UPDATE 12/28/09
Turns out the lot I originally planned for everyone to meet at will be closed due to possible flooding. 1/4 mile (if that) south on 101 of that lot is a shopping center with a Starbucks, Best buy, etc. This will be the new meeting place.

Here's the address for Best Buy to mapquest, google maps, yahoo maps, etc

180 Donahue St,
Sausalito, CA 94965

http://i8.photobucket.com/albums/a14/Maxsteel991/Picture1-16.png

The Drive:
My favorite part of the drive is in the first stretch to Stinson. Nice tight twisties and a BEAUTIFUL view of the Pacific. Don't hate me if I have everyone pull over a few times for some photos. Once we get to Stinson there will be a nice big lot near the beach to park for more photos and to bro out. I'm thinking I'll bring my rig along so if anyone wants a rig shot of their car we can get it set-up. There is also a market in town where you can get some snacks or a drink. From there we will drive farther north where more twisties will ensue. I plan on taking whoever is down for a solid drive up to Marshall, then into Petaluma, then back down 101 to an In-N-Out in Mill Valley for some lunch. If you've got plans you're welcome to head back to Mill Valley after the initial hang-out at Stinson. You can also head east on Sir Francis Drake from Olema and it will eventually put you back on 101. I didn't want to include this part for the meet because there are parts of SFD that have some rough pavement which made my coilovers and fenders unhappy last time I drove it. Most of you shouldn't have a problem though. If you plan on heading out early make sure you do your homework so you don't get lost.
http://i8.photobucket.com/albums/a14/Maxsteel991/Picture3.png

The whole loop is about 85 miles and should take about 2 hours not including stops.

Things to Bring:
1. Two-way radio (if possible)
2. Lots of gas
3. Cash/Card (if you plan on getting snacks/lunch)
3. Your cool face.

Rules/Precautions:
Big Number 1. Keep it respectful. Observe speed limits going through residential/crowded roads.
2. Avoid drawing too much attention from the Police (burnouts, drifting, etc would be a good example of what not to do).
3. There are portions of the drive along HWY 1 that are fun and twisty but have no guardrail to protect from losing it over a cliff. I will not be pushing it on these parts.

Also, since I'm pretty sure I'll be leading the pack does anyone have a V1 or something of the like I could borrow?

Sign up Mofos!

That guy pulled some crazy moves last time. I think he ran 5 red lights, got yelled at by 10 cyclists, and toppled 15 strollers with helpless infants minding their own business. Cool guy though. I still need windshield trim...bring him out :shifty

Actually, now that I think about it, I might be coming from Pleasanton that morning. I will be spending the night at my friends house. So, I think ending up in Oakland should not be too bad. Let me know, and PM me too if you want to set something up. I think caravaning from the Eastbay would be cool.

I absolutely would if this was last week but my promotion to General Manager/the old one getting fired just finalized today so I kinda have to stick around and improve the business for a while. Probably gonna be working several weeks straight :(

Good. I would probably do something stupid and I have terrible wet weather traction.

On Saturday I was going up a passing lane hill at about 55 mph in 3rd gear. I put the pedal to the floor and I lost traction and passed this truck looking through his passenger window out my front windshield. Nearly pooped myself.

So how far did you all go before you realized you missed the turn onto Marshall-Petaluma road? I was at the rear, and I followed the pack past Tomales, around 130PM. I turned around and waited until 2, and with no E34s in site, I left to visit a friend in Santa Rosa.

As it was pointed out before, cell phone numbers are a good idea. As a minimum, two way radios are nice, but they only go so far. Knowing the number of the leader would have helped.

All: if you aren't in the BMW CCA, I suggest you join, the savings in parts and the great club magazine are worth the price. Go on a couple drives with them, and you can pick up some tips on leading them. Oh, and if you join, please use me as a referral: Brad Houser, member 164195.

It was a bit of a miserable day for NapaBavarian and I, and I'm sure for PorscheH6. We were stranded for about 3 hours before we even got contact with PorscheH6.

The cliffnotes story:
Leaving Stinson, about 1-2 miles up the road, I hit a pothole in his M5. I pulled over and assumed after I didn't make our next checkpoint, that someone would turn back to look for us. 3 hours later, I get a PM on these forums with PorscheH6's phone number, and he is near our starting spot for the day.
I inform him of what happens, and he comes to find us with a borrowed spare 15'' wheel.
So we jack up the car, get the little spare on there and get ready to leave.
BZZT! Wrong! The spare is too small inside diameter, and is binding up on the strut housing.
At this point, we need to drive from Stinson to San Jose, Grab PorscheH6's spare from his garage, drive back to Stinson, install it, and finally head home. Total stranded time for the car was 6ish hours. I got home shortly after 10PM. At this point I was about 36 hours from my last time sleeping, not including a 1ish hour nap I took in my car while we were driving to and from San Jose.

I think we'll be swapping phone numbers next time :shifty

Wow, sorry to hear about the mess. I saw you pull over when the CHP was following, I thought you were just letting him pass so he could tail me. There were no stops anywhere after that, until I flashed and told Crazy8 we missed the turn after Hog Island Oysters. We tried to catch the pack for a while, but then it broke up with other non-BMW drivers inserting themselves (gasp!) and slowing down (double gasp!!). That's when I said to myself "it's over.":(

Here is my suggestion. Whoever organizes the drive gets phone numbers from everyone by PM before the trip, prints out or emails copies to all who sign up, with real names and vehicles, so we all have a decent shot at communicating with each other. Hell, if I had known you had a flat, I would have let you try my spare.

Oh, and anyone trading cars stays together.;)

Porscheh6: I have a spare for sale that may fit. If interested I will get you the size. No it is not a t-star.

I'm in downtown a block above Shattuck across the street from campus. Maybe now an E34 owner will actually wave back at me. There's a couple e34'thusiasts out here though. Two tourings come to mind and a black M5 in North Berkeley.

KyleCleveland

I think 90% of the issue was the lack of communication about phone numbers. Brad's idea is what would work best.

I have no issues with switching cars, as long as next time I can contact the other driver. The same situation would have happened even if I were driving my own car. The only change is that I could have used any spare, and wouldn't have had to drive to San Jose and back. :D

I had fun even though I missed some of the meet and had a stressful afternoon. I liked being able to chat with other 540i and e34 owners in person.

Can we do another in the summer? I'll make an effort not to blow out any tires next time.
