View Full Version : Got bored so i plasti-dipped my rims on the touring>

Just wanted to try something different. So I plast-dipped my rims black, but only on one side. If I don't like it then I'll just peel it off back to silver. Was thinking about going gold also. What do you guys think? I think I like the silver better but if I go black I'm gonna have to shadowline the windows./http://i214.photobucket.com/albums/cc312/snosk8luke/e39paint1.jpg/http://i214.photobucket.com/albums/cc312/snosk8luke/e39paint6.jpghttp://i214.photobucket.com/albums/cc312/snosk8luke/e39paint2.jpg/http://i214.photobucket.com/albums/cc312/snosk8luke/e39paint3.jpghttp://i214.photobucket.com/albums/cc312/snosk8luke/e39paint4.jpg/http://i214.photobucket.com/albums/cc312/snosk8luke/e39paint5.jpg

how did you do that?Tape and spray. That's it.

Not bad, but you could have just disassembled the wheels or at least taken them off. :confusedTo lazy today. Prep took about 20 minutes and plast-dip sprays on in 10. It's just a temp way of seeing a different look on the car. No need to take them off. Just put some newspaper behind the wheel so I didn't get any on the brakes.

Silver. Stay Silver.
bbs gold maybe?

Looks like it came out very good for leaving the wheels on the car. How did you go about not getting paint on the lips?

i gotta try this..search for plasti-dip on the forum. You will probably see many threads of people trying this stuff on different parts of thier car. Also google multi-color plasti-dip. There are places on the web you can order different colors of the stuff. I bought my cans at home-depot btw in the paint dept.

I have never seen anyone paint rims like that :lol. Both silver and black look sick, but ima have to go with black on this and do the shadowline. Itll look :drool:Thanks mang. I've never painted like this either but I just didn't feel like taking the wheels off today. Wanted a quick new look I guess. Like I said, I only did one side. So going down the highway, depending on what side you're on, you get a different looking car. Shadowline is next btw.

I'm a fan of silver but you did a nice job on the black.I love the silver to but I get bored sooooo easily. Gotta be doing something to the wag.

Looks pretty good for a rubber coating.

Could you get close ups? No primer I assume? Will that stuff actually hold up on wheels?I'll shoot some close ups tomorrow and post em. No primer but I did spray a clear coat over the latex to give em a little shine. It'll hold up till I peel it off.

Not bad. I say keep two silver and two black...just like you have it!

JasonThanks Jasson. I kinda like the two different colors on each side also. Think I'll leave it for a while.

Now I know what to do with that spare can of plasti-dip!!! Let me know how easily it peels off, I'd like to experiment with my wheels...

I think silver looks best on blue.Silver does look better on blue imo also. But having the black on oneside gives me the best of both. I get bored with my car so easily anyway. If noone likes black, I don't care. btw it will stay on till you peel off and it's not to hard to do so. Just grab a corner and pull slowly. I would love to see someone else do this.

Black looks also hot but whatzefuck how do you put the paper backside on ur wheels? :eek:haha, just stuffed it through the spokes and pulled it around. I used that thick paper that you put down on the floors when you are painting the walls in your house. Easy peezy japaneezy.

Let us know how easy it peels off.Ah yes the almighty google search. That's where I got the idea also. I saw a guy do his wheels on his audi and then he took picks of him pulling it off.

How well does this stuff hold up? How much did you use to do 2 wheels?I used 1 and a half cans. Did about 3 coats and it cost me 10 bucks.

cool. the silver is boring as crap, and the black looks much better. MUCH better. gold would be ok, but the black is the best, IMO.Mixed opinions in this thread. I really think I like having both colors. Maybe I'll shadowline just the side that has black wheels, lol. Hell, you can only look at one side at a time anyway. It'll be like having two diff cars, haha.

Black/polished wheels look like shit on a blue car.

I take that back. Wheels with black centers and polished lips look like shit 90% of the time anyway, regardless of the model of wheel or color of car. No offense.

PLASTI-DIP?!?!?! :confused

...on friggin wheels? You've got to be kidding me. :facepalm

This is the crap you use on a set of pliers to put a plastic coating on the handles.

Rides & styling has reached a whole new low. :( If you like it, great... but man oh man.

Not bad, but you could have just disassembled the wheels or at least taken them off. :confused

Well, they appear to be 1 piece cast replicas of 2 piece forged wheels. ;)

OP- keep the wheels silver. Black just looks bad on mesh-style wheels. It hides the finer spoke shapes and detailing that makes a mesh wheel look good.

adamnur
12-02-2009, 06:15 PM
Plasti-dip doesn't seem like a bad solution if you want to ride with a new look to see if you like it. Then do a more permanent solution after you peel it off, or stick with the old look.

It's just a cheap quick way to see what it looks like. Will I ride it for a few weeks, yep. If I decide that's the look I want then peel, sand, and paint or powdercoat will be done the right way. I do kinda dig the left side black and right side silver for now though. And yes they are reps but I'm ok with that to. I'm not paid in the shade but on a budget like most. My little boy gets all my cash unlike the olden days when I had real lm's.
