Hey guys, I was wondering. I don't know how many people have seen the james bond with the 7 series in it. But when he locked the doors it made a really cool lock whistle noise. My 740I'll only makes a beep beep noise.. I have heard a 5 series witth tthe whistle noise, I really want it! Is there a way to change it to that noise?

The old alarm siren is referred to as the "wolf whistle"...and the new alarm siren is referred to as the "road runner beep".
This is a VERY old and much discussed topic. If you do a search for "wolf whistle" you should get some hits. In fact, here's an old thread on BimmerBoard that has sound files of the two types of alarm sirens: http://www.bimmerboard.com/forums/posts/138239 . They aren't the best quality of sound files...but it gives you an idea of what they sound like.
If you really want the wolf whistle alarm...I'm sure you could swap with someone that has it and they would gladly trade for the road runner "beep"...lots of people hated the wolf whistle (like me) and had it turned off.

Those audio clips are worthless.
Does the wolf whistle sound like alarm on an 01? When ever I set off the alarm in my 7 is sounds like an ambulance is coming. My 98 was not nearly as shrill and annoying as my 01.

The wolf whistle I was referring to is the audible alert heard when you lock/unlock the doors...not the alarm siren that goes off when one of the sensors activates the car's alarm system.
Your 01 shouldn't have the wolf whistle "alert" unless a previous owner liked it and swapped. For example, I saw this CL add when I just googled "bmw wolf whistle"...and this guy is selling an 00 e38 and he lists in the UPGRADES...that he "upgraded" to the wolf whistle. (?) In my opinion it would be a downgrade...but to each their own. :D
CL add for 00 740iL w/upgrade to wolf whistle: http://scranton.craigslist.org/cto/1485251268.html
And as stated, those sound clips aren't very good at all...but just as the name implies...the old wolf whistle sounds very close to the name. It's very close to the sound that a guy would make if he was whistling at a hot chick as she passed by....it is a whistling sound. The newer alarm siren makes a BEEP sound.
If you want to know how to install it...again, this has been a much discussed topic. I went to google and typed "BMW wolf whistle sound".....and the first result was a DIY writeup on how to change it...below is one of the pics from the write-up that shows the location of the siren which is behind the wheel well liner on the rear passenger side. It's from an e39...but the e38s alarm siren is in the same location. If you know how to use a screw driver and wrench...plus pull an electrical harness...you too, can change your alarm siren: :D

I found the video below on youtube...this is pretty much the sound of the "road runner" BEEP alert and the sound of the alarm system's siren:

Here's another video of the "road runner" beep:

I would have to say the wolf whistle is pretty awesome. One time I was sitting outside at Starbucks and two gorgeous chicks walked by and I unlocked the car making the sound :) They stopped looked at the car then looked back at me :) Kinda cheesy I know but cool too!

I don't know...perhaps "aftermarket"? :D (just joking) I guess the 95s have the "chirp". :)
I found a board member over on BimmerBoard that put up a sound file of the wolf whistle...he "retro-fitted" his 2000 740iL with it: http://www.bimmerboard.com/forums/posts/660483/

My '95 makes the same sounds, for what it's worth anyhow. My dad's '00 750iL makes this really annoying beeping sound, and he's been wanting to switch back to the '95's sound.
