Don't see a stage 0 thread in here, and I don't have the owner's manual for my 6er. Rather than guess I thought it would be nice (for me at least) and any future potential 6er-converts to have a readily available list. Hopefully some of you guys can chime in :):)

spark plugs Champion N9YCX or Bosch W8LCR @ 0.7-0.8 mm gap
distributor cap/rotor where can replacements & upgrades be found
oil change OEM filter manufacturer (Mann?), and recommended oil weights (15w40?), where to source crush washers and should they be alum or copper?
5.8l capacity

trans fluid change again assume OEM, but filter?, Crush washers?
1.25l capacity (manual)
3l capacity (automatic)

O2 sensors
Injectorsflow rates of stock, 32lb??
air intakesdropin K&N
Power steering assumed OEM fluid
brakes sources for rotors & pads (r1concepts.com), sizing, where to get the BBK, DOT3 fluid?
Minimum thickness = 2mm

coolantzerex g-05?
fuel pumps seems to me that sourcing these is a common issue I've been reading, so what's the word on walbro/treperformance

Fuel 98 octane recommended, 70l capacity
Tires205/70/14 or 240/45/15, @ 38psi????

Hey guys - big time appreciate the help for a bimmer newbie. As mentioned I'd like to convert this to my track car and will be trying to document the build as I go for others.

By all means, don't guess! :D
BMW's aren't hard to work on, they just can be different, so doing it like you would your domestic car can get you in trouble at times. :shifty

There is so much information, we would be re-writing the manuals. Nearly all of the Specs. you ask about can be found in the Bentley Manual or Work Shop manuals listed below. For vendors, scroll to the bottom of the list below. Here are a few of my observations:

OEM for U.S. spec. is Bosch WR9LS Sliber, stay away from the platinum's. Many have good luck with the NKG's, and I've read of a few using cooper core Champions also.

Do a search on Oil, there are several good threads, The Auto tranny takes Dexron II or III and the Manual takes a GL4 Gear oil which is hard to find, many use RedLine MTL, again do a search for several good threads.

The Injectors are 19 lbs (a good site: http://www.fiveomotorsport.com/Injector_SetsBMW.asp ) for cleaning/rebuilding them: ( http://witchhunter.com/ )

I'd stay away from the K&N, and the OEM is not overly restrictive to begin with.

The Power Steering reservoir takes Dexron II or III and the brakes must be pumped 15/20 times to discharge the accumulator back into the reservoir before topping it up to within 3/8" of the top lip. If you top it up without pumping the brakes, you will overfill it.

DOT 4 in the brake reservoir.

Great post on all of the BMW brake upgrades that swap with the e24:

Yes, G-05 is basically the equivalent to the G48 "BMW Blue"

The typical replacement rim/tire is:

7" or 7.5" x 16" - ET20 or less with a 225/50-16 tire that has a diameter of 24.85"
7.5" or 8" x 17" - ET20 or less with a 235/45-17 tire that has a diameter of 25.32"

But they will take bigger, some more info (scroll to the bottom):

Here is a cut & paste of some standard information I've gathered, maybe you have already seen it, but if not, it may be of use. In any case, bookmark them:

There are some things you will definitely need:

There are no aftermarket repair manuals for the Six, but it shares the same engine, drivetrain, suspension and many systems with the 5-Series so the Bentley BMW 5-Series '82 to '88 Manual (Green cover, $38 at Amazon.com) works very well. The "Driveablity" and the fuel injection sections alone are worth the price for diagnosing running problems.

ETM (Electrical Troubleshooting Manual, aka "wiring diagram"). It is a very good manual, and everyone needs to have this. You really can't work on the car without it. Here is a Site with free downloads of ETM's (PDF files -13 to 20 MB) for various years ('82 to '01) and models of BMW's (3/5/6/7/8/Z):
http://wedophones.com/BMWManualsLead.htm

Free Downloadable Factory Workshop Manual (U.S. Spec after '82 - e28 based, including the M6) and a separate Factory Specification Book (you need the Spec book because torques/specs are not included in the Workshop Manual, however, most torques/specs. are given in the Bentley manual). The Workshop Manual is not the greatest, but you can't beat the price, and it is invaluable for the things not covered in the Bentley. It basically just lists the steps for replacing parts, very little in the way of Troubleshooting or System Descriptions are included, so it is best to still get the Bentley, and use the Factory Manual for e24 specific things that aren't in the Bentley:
http://bigcoupe.com/phpBB2/viewtopic.php?p=53625

Online Factory Workshop Manual. Unlike the downloadable Manual above, it also covers the early, e12 based cars - 630 to 633 before '82, as well as, the later cars and the M6. It is also for U.S. Spec. :
http://www.bmwtechinfo.com/repair/main/

Downloadable ZF 4HP-22/24 Automatic Transmission Overhaul Manual It has a fault chart, shows a complete overhaul and has the procedure for the "fix" for the "A" clutch pack:

There is also an Online ETM for an '85. It has much clearer component location pictures then the downloaded ETM's:
http://www.stormpages.com/countchocula1/bmw/etm002.htm
(The component location listings and pictures at the end of the ETM are invaluable as you find your way around the new car)

A gold mine of articles and how-to's:
BigCoupeGroup Tech Library (http://www.normgrills.net/bcg/) ;
Not to be confused with BigCoup.com, don't forget their Tech Articles also. (http://bigcoupe.com/phpBB2/viewforum.php?f=11)

An online Vin Decoder:
http://www.bmw-z1.com/VIN/VINdecode-e.cgi

Site showing BMW wheels with their data, pictures and the cars they came on: It's in German, but with the pictures, it doesn't matter much.
http://felgenkatalog.auto-treff.com/

And last but not least, there are 3 Online Parts Catalogs:

RealOEM.com, the original and I still find it the fastest to navigate if you are still on dialup:
http://www.realoem.com/bmw/select.do?vin=&kind=P&series=E24&arch=1

BMWFans, more graphic, so slower for dialup, but if you click on the part number in the right hand column, it will show you all of the other cars the part was used on. Very handy for hunting at the salvage yard:
http://bmwfans.info/original/E24/Cou/

Maximillian Importing, they will sell you the part, but the price isn't much better then the dealer:

For parts, the lowest prices I've found on the net: check all 3 when looking for parts (they also make good references):

http://www.Pelicanparts.com
http://www.BavAuto.com (Great Catalog, order it, it's free)
