I joined a few months ago--it's a neat service. Not a whole lot of car talk on there; would love to chat about 6-related stuff. I occasionally tweet in the midst of car projects (after I wipe the grease off, of course). My username is BoldUlysses.

I'm hoping this will refrain from devolving into a rant/rave thread about the pros/cons of Twitter/Facebook/MySpace/etc etc, but I'm not optimistic...

nah, i maintain a maintenance log with pictures in the bigcoupe "My Project" section, and copy most of that over to a cardomain page. Even if you're using a conventional social networking site for the same purposes, I see both a stigma (which you apparently do as well) associated with it, as well as the fact that you're reaching out to an inappropriate audience. My guess is there aren't a lot of "guys" on twitter looking for technical tweets, especially regarding a "vintage" euro car with a fairly limited audience.

I see it more of as a both/and rather than either/or. I have my own domain with a WP blog to document repairs/projects, and Twitter is ill-equipped anyway for the purpose of documenting/archiving anything. It functions much better as a platform for quick updates and discussions. Different "tool."
