View Full Version : I have a 2003 525, How much can Dinan help?
Its a great car and fun to drive with the sports package, but its not a rocket ship. A friend of mine showed me the Dinan offerings but before I start modding this thing...
Has anyone done the engine/transmission computer upgrade on a 525, is it even worth it?
Thanks

Bump and a move for more replies.
Have you checked out dinan's website? Its got 'their' data on hp agins etc. DInan is expensive coz of the name.. Turner motorsports seems popular..?

Dinan's stuff will make the car a little peppier, but will not improve much overall. The engine shares most of its components with the 3.0L so efficiency for airflow in and out isn't a problem. You may want to look into ECIS intakes and Turner says they have the injector for the 2.5L engines coming out soon. Give them a call. The Dinan tranny software will be a good idea to match the higher rpm limit of the engine from a shark injector and for better gear selection from the computer.

Just curious but why buy a new 03 525 that you want to mod when you could have bought a used 00 M5 for about the same price and have one heck of a car that needs next to nothing(unless you want to)?

yeah, I agree... It would make it pepier... you know...responsive... Not much faster.... for 2.L and a heavier car compared to the 3er u can't make it much faster w/o spending a fortune....
I am not sure what u r looking for exactly but Dinan will only make it more fun but not blazingly fast as you may expect...
I bought this car for my wife so that she and our baby would have a safe vehicle to drive around in. Before buying this car I did not know much about BMW's only that the 5 is supposed to be one of the greatest cars ever made.
Having said that, I am so unbelievably impressed with this car that yes, if I had a do over I would buy a 530 or possibly even a 540, although I am not disappointed with the 525 by any means.
I do not expect to turn it into a rocket ship, but will consider anything that will reasonably enhance the performance. I just wanted to know if anyone had put the engine/transmission enhancements on a 525 and if they could 'feel' a difference.
I definitely wanted a new vehicle though, and the M5 was a bit out of my price range.

Do you have an auto? A 525 auto does feel a tad slugglish.... A manny would be ok.
Dinan Stage 1 and tranny software will make it more responsive... not more power... in your mind u will think it feels more power. If you start to do a CAI, exhaust, etc... yes, u will feel more power as u do more... on the downside, your car will be louder....
