I have been in 2 car shows now. I have noticed that some people who have audio system have their cars ON and have this battey looking devise plugged in their engine bay. To keep the battery from running out. Where can i get one of those what are they called? This is not a Jumper for the battery its some strange looking device almost like a box.
Thanks :)

Found these things but not sure which one it is.

1) Do you know how much power you are pulling with the DDE's, car show stuff on the car??

Do a search for 12V portable power or 12V power generator, etc.

Here are some things that I know of:

This is a pretty heavy duty unit -- serious power.

This is similar to what I had -- do you remember borrowing mine at Import Xpression (http://shop.store.yahoo.com/koolatrononline/koolporpow.html)

Mine can run a 20 inch television for approximately 3 hours -- think Hurricane Isabel. So, this might be adequate enough to keep your battery charged for the entire show (6 hours). The first one I believe you hook it up to your cig. lighter to keep a continuous balance of power.

Hope this helps ...

Thanks James.
I remember the one you had. Buts thats more like somthing you use when you need a jump/boost.
I am looking for something that i can plug in that will not drain my battery. Remember Kristian with the gullwing doors e46 at IX in VA. I am pretty sure i saw him using the device i was looking for. :)

hahaha just found a picture of it.
Its the red box looking device in the front of his bumper.

its just a battery charger.. go to pep boys.. $50 for a regular charger. Or u can go nuts.. Krishna and the rest of NIM have a real heavy duty charger nowadays, but its like $600! I just run a regular battery charger and it works for me for the entire show.

One idea---instead of the unsightly cord coming out from under the hood, why not hook up a high-amp (like 20A or so) plug somewhere inconspicuous, like under the car? Then at the car show, you park, plug in your charger to AC power and the car plug (mounted out of sight), and you have a much cleaner look. All you'll see is a cord running under the car.

You can probably find a plug at an aircraft supply store or a racecar supply store:
