Looking to see if the headlights on my 1998 740il are glass or plastic. They look like glass. They are pitted and look yellow and was going to clean them with one of those plastic headlight restoration kits, but I think they are glass? Any suggestions on getting them back in shape?
Thanks

When glass gets blasted it gets frosted!
Why not spend the $125 for a pair and look fresh

$25.87 each at autohausAZ.....don't sand, replace.
These are Bosch...but they say they are not DOT aproved. ???.
I bought them for mine and they look good.

I had mine off today, put in new Ice white CCFL AE, (The cops kept on pulling me over for the blue CCFL's!!!) So I reseated the gasket and thought that I really want new inserts!

Definitely true! Don't sand glass. Edwin is absolutely right that that is one way to frost glass. You can also sand blast it but I really think that is the opposite of what you are looking for.

I know:(.
I just want to air sand something before it gets to cold here in NY.
It has in in the upper 50's and the 20's are just around the corner.
I have been getting in as much fun BMW stuff as possible before the snow!
I am going to get replacements, after the winter and the sanding/salt trucks chip the crap out of my car again!!
Maybe I will air sand my whole car in the spring and make it an M7!! J/K

Do where gets new headlight inserts? Mine are terribly yellowed...and I did a mediocre job gluing on my AEs anyways... :shifty
And while we're on the topic of headlights.
I just installed my HID kits for my fogs and lows. The fogs look fine, but I noticed something weird with the lows. One of the headlights seem brighter than the other, and I think it may be because I either got a projector dirty, or scratched it. It has dark swirling on it, and isn't a pure white like the other projector.
I was thinking about using some glass cleaner and a really soft towel. Might that work?

I have tried cleaning the inserts with so many different products, I am beginning to think the plastic is factory yellow!!
I also want clear inserts
