View Full Version : SunRoof will not tilt... need help please

Hey there E39 guys.:wavey
I have a friend that just brought and 1997 540 E39. He is having a problem w/ his Sunroof, its not tilting at all. The SR will open and close but will not tilt at all. When trying to tilt the SR it will make a loud "CLICK CLICK" noise but will not tilt upwards. We haven't dissect the SR yet but will soon was possible when you get some advice.

I was thinking the SR motor might be going out or something is stuck or broken inside that will not tilt the SR.

Any suggestion guys?

Most likely the motor, same thing happened to my friend. Went to tilt it up and SMACK, came right back down.

also how much is the SR motor..
noob question on E39s but can you use an E36 SR motor to replace?
i doubt it.. but just asking..cause i have an extra e36 SR motor

Tilt arms broke. There's a DIY on bimmerboard that was also copied on bforums. Google "sunroof won't tilt up BMW e39". I would, but I'm posting thru my phone
