What's the best driving/racing school on the East Coast (NY area). Any opinions on Skip Barber at Lime Rock? Any preference for learning on your own car versus a race tuned car? Is it worth the cost?

I took the 3 day school at lime rock (skip barber). I would say that for 99% of drivers out there it is well worth it and you will have a TON of fun. If you reserve a seat in a class that isn't sold out within two weeks (or something like that) of the class you can get like 400 off. Give them a call.

I've done several Skippy events and they are really great. The only thing that I can say about them though is that having prior driving experience helps, like Autocrossing, or Driver Schools. All driving schools no matter what they are, are worth every penny!

Learning in your own car is better in most cases, since you will not have to deal with getting used to a vehicle AND learning new skills. The other plus of using your own car is that you save money. Most schools using your own car are 160-200 for the day, compared to ?(someone know the price for a Skip B. school).

If you want to there are some days left at www.pdadrivingschool.com, not the best for learning, but you will have an instructor. The plus with them is weekend track time.

Not sure if the savings of using your own car is worth the cost to hard parts such as brakes, tires, and overall wear and tear.

I would go with Skip to begin with, and then after a few schools, find one that allows your own car.
