I have the usual pixel problems and got hold of a replacement ribbon cable to sort the problem.

After many tries it is vastly improved but I still have issues to the right hand side.

My question:

I have carsoft and a cable which I have used to check for fault codes. It can be used to reset the service indicators and I believe adjust mileage.

If I get a used cluster (all working of course) can I simply plug in carsoft and change the mileage to match my car?

Many thanks in advance.:D

NO. Carsoft cannot adjust mileage, (Ive not found one yet) Clusters are married to another module in the car, and both of them store mileage. If you replace one of them, you get a tamper dot illuminated in your mileage readout.

Your best bet is to approach BMW for a cluster replacement, as this affects resale, warranty, etc etc etc. Seach for other threads on this topic.
