Fair price for a diff...

...with all of the differential talk going around, what would you guys say is a fair price for a 3.38 diff, with or without a core.

I might begin my search soon and don't want to pay too much.

i would say around $600-700 or so used from a private seller.

Good to know. I replied to an ad on one site where the seller was asking $800 but it was already sold. Good to know I didn't miss a smoking deal.

Is there a reason why a ring gear can't be installed in the diff instead of buying the entire unit?

no reason.. if u can get ur hands on a ring gear from another similar diff. Its just hard to find the gears by themselves. There are a few places and people that will custom work your current diff if you choose to. But thats $$$ also.

$800 is a fair price. Its not a smoking hot deal, but its not a total rip off either.
